The walls were caked entirely with numerous amounts of substances, making a thick slime that didn’t ooze but stuck like hell and created an awful stench. Leonard let his thoughts drift out of the prison cell.

“I ain’t gettin’ on that damn atom scattering machine. A shuttle’s fine with me,” he told Jim, huffing a disdainful look at the transporter.
“Bones, Copernicus is still getting its warp core protected and Galileo was nearly torn to pieces on the last planetside trip.” Jim was getting annoyed with the doctor’s constant rebellion.
“Then I’ll wait ‘till Mister Scott’s finished with Copernicus. ‘Sides, M’Benga is busy with patients.” A sigh and a victory.
An hour later, the nurses filed onto the waiting shuttlecraft, M’Benga and Leonard following. “Ready to go, Ensign?”
Then they were off, the incomplete and unnamed security shuttle flanking the doctors’.
And then there she was, a dark green omen blocking their way to the planet. Sirens went off, red lights flashing warnings.
The tractor beam caught them, wrenching them towards the opening shuttle bay.
“Copernicus to Enterprise! We’re bein’ intercepted; Klingon Bird of Prey. Less than a hundred kilometers!” And then the shuttle lurched back and he was faintly aware of Chapel’s scream before he was unconscious.

When he woke, he was chained to an erect blonde woman in blue. She didn’t acknowledge his presence when he touched her leg but he saw her shudder and knew she was alive. Which was good.
“What the hell happened, Christine?”
“Hush, Leonard,” she whispered harshly and she looked around the dark cell, something he hadn’t noticed when he first woke up, as if talking would bring about their captors. “The Klingons took M’Benga an hour ago. They’re torturing for information.”
Leonard glanced around at the emptiness. “Where are the others?”
And Christine offered a choked cry for explanation. So Leonard took her hand and held it tight.
---
Christine stumbled into the cell, arms bloodied and red with what looked like whipping marks.
“tlhap Dung,” the guard shouted. Leonard complied. He was up for a fight after looking at the battered nurse at his side.
He was lead to a large pit and he immediately saw the grungy instruments that would be used against him in the next few hours.
“Give us the codes for Enterprise’s shields.”
“Leonard McCoy, Chief Medical Officer, Lieutenant Commander, Identifica-” A sharp slap had him spitting blood on his sleeve. “Fuck you.”
The Klingons laughed at his response. “Codes.”
“Leonard McCoy, Chief-”
“Enough.” The larger Klingon with the orders signaled to his subordinates with the instruments meant for his demise.
---
Leonard looked at his hands, watching the blood soak into the brown fabric of his uniform.
“Might want to wash those.”
“Got anything?”
‘No.”
Geoffrey laughed weakly at his comment and rested against the wall, holding the blonde nurse steady as he moved.
“Is everyone else dead?”
“Yeah. When you were unconscious, they got Palmer and Puri. They tortured the others until…”
Looking over at the younger doctor, Leonard could see that he wouldn’t ever recover from the incident, its horror too much.
---
“Doctor, wake up. Leonard!” Christine was shouting at his, shaking him with as much might as she could muster in her condition. He opened his eyes, pulling her close by reaction, and looked around.
“What’s going on? What’s wrong?”
“Bones, c’mon. We gotta get outta here; Spock’s got M’Benga.” And Jim appeared in the entry way.
“Jesus, Jim.”

And then Leonard woke up.
