RIP Dr. George Tiller

I don't know what to say about the cold-blooded murder of Dr. George Tiller that hasn't already been said, except that I am profoundly saddened for his family, his patients, and all the women who won't be able to go to him for help anymore, the kind of help that is becoming rarer and rarer in this country ( Read more... )

here in Boston, there's a vigil for him at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 138 Tremont St (opposite Park Street Station), starting at 6 pm.

at the risk of sounding rage-y, i think when they find the fucker who did this, they should chop off his head and put it on a pike, as a warning to the next generation of crazies that their brand of crazy is not to be tolerated.

yeah, i am full of rage. i hate the smarm and the weasliness of the people who're in the ultra-conservative camp. :(

Alas, the murderous git would then be venerated as a martyr. :(

probably by some. but he's gonna be a martyr for the cause no matter what happens to him.

i just want there to be a way to hold a group accountable for the actions of its members. otherwise, it's all too easy for organizations of whatever stripe (corporations included) to just shrug off lawbreaking and nastiness as "oh, he was just one guy, *we*'re not like that"... :\

I am so with you. We were debating this at work today, whether the shooter is insane or was pushed by others, and I argued for both, leaning towards the latter. This is the culmination of nationwide anti-choice rhetoric, not one individual's random act.

I just don't know any practical way to do so (and I know we're probably going to get scolded by the local Libertarians for even having this opinion.)

What I don't understand is, if the killer is doing this for religious reasons, why did he kill the doctor inside a church?

Because there are some people whose version of religion tells them that killing in order to prevent abortion isn't really a crime. Hell, I saw some of them on CNN this evening.
