Friday night: Flight of the Conchords concert at BU's Agganis Arena. Then stayed up way too late afterward.
Saturday morning: Woke up at 6:00 a.m. Showered and dressed quickly, then drove to Post Office Square in Boston to park in the garage there. Just missed the 7:00 a.m. bus, but got on another one half an hour later. Fell asleep almost immediately, didn't wake up until Harlem.
Saturday noon: Arrived at Port Authority. Knees very unhappy from being jammed into the seat in front of me for 4 hours. Got out and walked over to Times Square to wait for Trowa's brothers. Turns out the younger of Trowa's two half-brothers was unable to be there, so we had four brothers in total.
Saturday afternoon: We ate lunch at Lindy's and spent time getting to know one another. Seems to me as though eldest brother and Trowa actually have a fair bit in common. Eventually, one brother had to leave for work, and the rest of us ended up at the Playwright's Pub on 8th Ave. Had a few drinks, talked some more.
Saturday evening: Ended up getting some small plates at Uncle Nick's Ouzaria on 9th Ave, chatted some more. Brothers had plans for the evening in Brooklyn, which meant that we really couldn't join them, because we had to get a late bus and the time it would take to get there and back made it impossible. So, we said our goodbyes and promised to keep in touch.
Saturday night: Trowa and I had some time to kill, so we walked down 48th to the passenger ship terminal to watch the sun set over the river. Then we walked along Riverside Park for a while. I took photos of the old Pier D. Emerged from the park at Trump Place on 68th St., where we stealthily slipped inside and used the bathrooms in the residents' lounge, ha ha! Then walked back to Times Square, passing
pisicutsa's neighborhood on the way, through Columbus Circle and down Broadway for a while. Somewhere along the way we passed a Cuban restaurant, Guantanamera, with a man hand-rolling cigars out front for cash. Eventually stopped at a EuroPan Cafe for a drink and a rest, as my hips and knees were very unhappy with me, then made our way back to Port Authority to get bus tickets for home. Waited a long time in the delightful cauldron of humanity that is the gates and waiting area before getting on the second 10:30 p.m. bus to fill up completely. We weren't able to sit together. Fell asleep almost immediately.
Sunday, wee hours: Bus made a stop in Hartford. Seatmate left, allowing Trowa to come sit next to me. Fell asleep again. Knees again extremely unhappy about being jammed into seat in front of me (when the hell did they build these buses? was everyone just shorter then? gaaaah!) Arrived at South Station at 3:00 a.m., caught cab to Post Office Square, picked up car, and drove home. Decompressed with email for an hour or so, then went to bed.
Sunday afternoon: Trowa woke up around 2:00 p.m. for rehearsal. I slept another 2 hours. Lower back hates me today, knees and hips have sort of forgiven me. Have showered and dressed, now want a nap.
It was worth it, but I think I am getting too old for this. :-}
