I always like to take stock of the good things in my life at this time of year. Even when life is being difficult (and at the end of the year there will also be my annual list of things that sucked), it's good for me to remind myself that I am actually very fortunate in many ways. This year I am thankful for the following:
- My wonderful husband, trowa_barton
- My wonderful boyfriend, ariesd
- Partners' partners who are awesome and kind (and those of you who know my previous history with poly know just how much this means to me)
- My large, loving family
- My many excellent friends
- kimberlogic and xlii will be moving back home soon
- I am still employed at a job I like, doing meaningful work
- Trowa is also still employed and seems likely to remain so
- We are more than adequately clothed, housed, and fed
- Despite some chronic conditions to manage (and my complaints thereof), I am actually reasonably healthy and able-bodied; Trowa is healthy as well
- My grandma just became a great-grandma for the first time
- The internet
- The presidential election of 2008 -- I feel like I may finally get my country back
- The fact that high fuel prices and a shrinking economy finally made this nation think more seriously about wasteful consumption and disastrous financial practices (let's see how long that lasts)
- I exist in a place and time where I can be educated, read and write, speak freely, own property, have the relationships (both emotional and sexual) I want, have a job, keep the money I earn, choose my religion or lack of it, travel freely and alone, wear what I like, have access to medical care, and expect to be treated like a human being without fear of societal retribution
More reasons to be thankful may occur to me later, but I think this is a good list.
