a blast from the past

I spent a few hours tonight at the home of my mom's friend's son and his wife, over in the south end. The friend, Janet, was visiting for Xmas, along with her daughter, and the wife's mother and brother. (Christ, that looks so convoluted, but I can't think of any clearer way to write it right now. Deal. :)

The point of that confusing setup is that I've known Janet and her kids since I was very young. I remember when Russ used to delight in "wallbreaker" belches and loud farts and calling his little sister "Crack" or "Consto" (short for "constipated"). Nowadays he calls her Stephanie. :) I remember when Stephanie was a frizzy-headed little kid in the same nursery school class as my little brother.

It's really funny to see Russ now, with his hair thinning just a bit at the crown of his head, all adult and married and responsible and shit. I never would have believed it if I hadn't seen it. *giggle* And Stephanie, grown up and cute and living in NYC (and also laid off, just like so many of us). The neat part is realizing that I can actually hang out with them and have a good time, even though I haven't seen them in years. That's pretty cool.

childhood, memories
