...who is uncomfortable with the way the death of Sally Ride has been turned into an anti-DOMA propaganda-fest?
Don't get me wrong. I hate DOMA and fully support same-sex marriage. But let's face it, most people didn't know that Sally Ride had a long-term partnership with another woman until a few days ago. For whatever reason, they chose a private, low-profile sort of life. She came out to the public in an obituary that they co-wrote, apparently. That was her prerogative. But does that mean that Tam O'Shaughnessy is now the poster child for the anti-DOMA cause? I don't see any evidence so far that this is so, as much as we might wish it (and as much as it might benefit the cause).
It just seems to me like O'Shaughnessy's grief is being co-opted for political purposes, and it strikes me as intrusive and opportunistic. She just lost the love of her life. Let the poor woman have some time to mourn.
