taura_g, trowa_barton, and I are in agreement that the recent stupidity perpetrated by the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation has left us unable to continue participating in the 3-Day Walk. At this point I'm not sure what would have to happen in order for us to reconsider, but it would have to involve a pretty major shakeup of leadership at the very least. Either way, the fallout has angered so many people who were our sponsors that SGK has effectively poisoned the well, and I wouldn't be surprised to learn that many other walkers are finding themselves in the same situation. Meh.
However, there are other organizations that we can support. There's the Avon Breast Cancer walk if we want to do a multi-day walk (2 days, 39 miles), the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk for cancer in general, and other events. We could even just do a fundraiser for Planned Parenthood this year, as we're likely not going to be prepared to walk anything this season.
We'll keep you posted and hope folks will still be enthusiastic about baking and eating fabulous treats in the service of raising money to beat cancer.
