I just found out that I am being considered for a "Beacon." Apparently something I did impressed someone who wears a tie, and this is the consequence.
Before it goes too far, I find myself wondering: what the hell is a "Beacon" (apart from the official name for the "splat" logo), and is it worth the least bit getting excited over? Is it overall a good thing, or does it just lead to the old "increased performance leads to increased expectations?"
The damnedest thing is, I know exactly what I did -- and I honestly don't see anything that exceptional about it. That several people in lofty positions disagree makes me wonder what the hell is going on out there in other centers.
