MY [ROADTRIP]
Thursday:
My cousin Jared, His girlfreind Anna Maria (Ams) and I get ready for the trip to Auckland to go see Jared's favorite band HIM. I come along for the ride, kinda keen but not as into it as they are. Jared shows me the itinerary and I see that we are in for one hell of a trip.
Friday:
Left wellington at about 9 with Jared as the driver for the trip in his parent's sabaru legacy station wagon. Woo road trip is underway!
Got to Waiouru with no real troubles. So we head into the was museum for a little gander and discover that you have to pay so we flag. When we get to the car we find that the battery is flat. We sit and fume for a while before paying for someone from the gass station to use his battery pack and cables to start us.We buy jumper cables as a back up, just in case it happens again.
Jared tells Ams and I to start on the bottle of bubbly we have in the car about halfway through the desert road. Fuck it, he says have the vodka too and some lift plus. All mixed together in a pump bottle. It was tastey but we were fucked by the time we got to Taupo. We book our rooms at a hostel and I run to it and throw up. I then have a nice long shower. We chill for a bit then see that there is a bar at the hostel and it is dirt cheap. So after dinner I lay into a few beers and some $3 shooters just to keep me in my haze a bit longer.
Saturday:
Wake up feeling like I have been hit by a truck. Check to see that I have not been hit by a truck. Realise that throbbing is cased by a day of excessive drinking. So I pack my bags in a haze and we load up the car and check out just before the 10am check out time. With that done we decide to check out what Taupo has to offer.
=> A web cam outside the council building. We posed while Jared's mum watched on the internet and saved the images.
=> Huka Falls. Fucking amazing. All that power. Phroar
=> The Honey Hive. Mmm honey tasting. Mmm fruit wine tasting. All free. Then I bought a little pot of the most amazing apricot honey blend. So good.
=> Prawn farm. Basically an expensive restraunt in the middle of nowhere. So we opted for the seeming fun choice of $15 dollar prawn fishing, hoping it would be fun and we would catch a feed which they would then cook for free. Ass. We caught nothing after two hours of sitting doing nothing while little kids hauled them in. Ass.
After that little escapade it was time to head to Hamilton to stay the night at my Brother's house. Things to do in Hamilton are as follows:
=> Get drunk.
Sunday:
Wake up with a throbbing head. Again. Pack up and go at a pitiful time of 1pm. So much for a tight trip. We decide to go see Jared's Grandparents, who live in Hamilton. We find there place and see no car in the drive. We go get a feed and sit around and go back for another look. Still no car. So we park up to decide what to do. When we try and start again the battery fucks us again. After more fuming we try to look for a car to start us but it's a dead street. We ring family who get hold of Jared's grandpa who eventualy arives and starts us. We leave the car running, jump in for a quick visit then head off at about 7pm. We fume some more. Arive at Am's Uncle's house in the north shore at 9ish. It is huge and flash and has a swimming pool and a pool table. And beds for all of us. And their three sons.
Monday:
We drive in to Aukland to check it out. Jared goes to the casino and I go to the arcade. I spend $10, he makes $30. Bastard. We check out novelty stuff at the victoria park markets and have Wendy's for lunch. Then we head to snow planet so jared can use his free hour coupon. I sit and watch and am amused. He does quite well with some sweet runs. But we are screwed. Because the key snapped in the door of the car on our way in when jared went back to get his jacket out of the locked car. We have to call Anna Maria's auntie to get us. Fume fume fume fucking car.
Tuesday:
I catch a bus into town while Jared and Ams get a new key cut and taxi to snow planet to get the car. I fuck around, see chi and check out real groovey. Then I think that there must be some sweet record store so I ask someone and they tell me where some are. I find one on K road and walk in... to hear breaks pumping. I look on the shelves and see nothing but breaks. I had found Lowpass. New Zealand's only dedicated breaks store. SICK! I was trying to save my money but couldn't help but buy Made of Steel by jade. I had been waiting for that for so long and had to buy something from this awsome store. I then met up with Jared and Ams for a few beers before the concert.
HIM:
I didn't know that that many 15 year old goth girls existed. The theatre was full of people in black. Infact only two people weren't: Myself and Diana (cute Russian girl I talked to after the concert). I actualy quite liked it. The sound was superb and they played all the songs I knew. There were some great rock along moments and some great sing along moments. Completely missed goodnight nurse, which is a good thing. It was definately a very fan filled concert though. Most of the crowd were diehards and many had HIM tatoos. It was quite strange. Afterwards I went up to look at the set up and jared hunted around for momentos. When talking to a security gaurd I managed to spot a bass guitar pick just over the barrier. He gave it to me and i proceded to make Jared kneel for it.He then taped it to his arm so he wouldn't lose it.
Outside waiting at the backdoor I started chatting to Diana the cute russian girl who had liked HIM for a long time. She was nice and was cozying up to me which was cool. Jared was eagerly waiting for autographs. I was having fun talking to the girl so it was win win. She was saying I should come on a tour of europe with her that she is going on soon. Wow. When we had waited enough to no avail, we started walking to get a taxi. Diana starts walking off towards he flat in the inner city and asks me to walk her home. We start heading off when jared and ams chase after us wondering what was going on as I would only have enough for a taxi if I went with them. I was hoping I could use being stranded as an excuse to stay at hers. After trying to get me to go with them they realise that it would be a good idea to strand me. But Diana has now got the idea that it is urgent that I get a taxi home. She says we should go to her place where she can get us a cheep taxi as she has a card at home.
Jared and Ams don't hear this and walk off telling me to ask to stay the night. They walk off and I ask to stay in her lounge, she says it is shared and she is embarased at her messy house but is super keen to swap numbers. Her phone is dead so she writes mine down with make up. I get hers. She leaves and I try and text Jared but they are gone and I am stuck. I Text Diana but she doesnt respond untill I have completely panicked and gotten so lost because she had to charge her phone. She guided me to her place and when I arive... she has called a taxi. I oblige and take it but it costs my bus fare to hamilton. I get back to the house and crash.
Wednesday:
Borrow money from jared and catch bus to town, them hamilton then my brothers house. Sleep.
Thursday:
Mum drivesme to matamata. Jared visits, I pay him back and mum gives him some prime steak (Jared: "Don't they have cows?" Me: "They are in the freezer"). I shovel some shit, eat and spend ages typing this.
