Summary: Sometimes, drinking will lead you into something that's worth it.
Kyungsoo really likes Jongin, that’s for sure.
They belong in the same friendship circle, but they don’t talk to each other a lot. Their conversations only consist of simple Hello’s and Goodbye’s and if Kyungsoo’s lucky, they're able to talk about life or sometimes, argue about senseless things.
Kyungsoo is close to all his friends, except Jongin. He doesn’t know why. Maybe it’s because he was intimidated at Jongin when they first met.
Jongin is good at Chemistry. He is also a good dancer.
Kyungsoo asked himself for the nth time when the hell did this all started…
-
They were seating on the floor outside their lecture room while waiting for their professor in Health Economics.
Jongdae was casually eating the chocolate bar he stole from Minseok when he suddenly asked, “Kyungsoo, do you still like your ex-boyfriend?”
“Uh, no. I was the one who broke up with him and it was 2 years ago.”
“Why did you broke up with him?” Kyungsoo was surprised because of all people, the question came from Jongin.
“He cheated on me.”
“Really?”
“Yeah, thrice. And I’m tired of all his shits. And maybe because he doesn’t have time for me anymore.”
“That’s awful.”
“I know. My high school friends were more than happy when I told them I broke up with him.”
Jongin looked up from his phone and stared at Kyungsoo. “Well, I’m glad, too. Cheaters don’t deserve to be in a relationship especially when their partners are really faithful to them.”
Luhan, who was playing with his rubik’s cube stopped and narrowed his eyes at Jongin. “That’s harsh. Did you have the same experience as Kyungsoo?” Jongin stared at Luhan for a few seconds before answering, “Yes.”
“Oh, do tell!”
Jongin groaned. “Do I really have to?”
“Of course, we’re friends here! We should know!” Jongdae said.
Jongin sighed and put his phone in his pocket. “Fine. I actually didn’t have any girlfriends or boyfriends. If we like each other, then we like each other. I tend to wait for a few months to see if we’re really compatible and if I see that we are, then that’s when I ask them if we can make our relationship official.”
“You’re really picky,” Kyungsoo said without looking up from the book he was reading.
“I have to. I’m looking for a long-term relationship, not a fling.” Jongin said as he adjusted his eyeglasses. He cleared his throat and continued with his story. “I almost asked the last girl I dated if we can make our relationship official, but then she told me that we should stop whatever is going on between us and that there is another guy who wants to be her boyfriend.”
“Bitch.” Sehun said without taking his eyes off of his phone.
“That’s harsh,” Kyungsoo sighed. “She should’ve waited.”
“Well, I’m already over her so I don’t care anymore,” Jongin said nonchalantly. “And she’s almost as tall as me and that’s not what I’m looking for. I like short people.”
Baekhyun, who was quiet all throughout the conversation, snapped. “Rude!” But then he stopped. “Hey, we have Kyungsoo!”
“What about me?”
“You’re short.”
“I’m not!”
Sehun snorted.
Kyungsoo rolled his eyes. “Asshole.”
Baekhyun continued. “But really, the both of you got cheated on. Well, on Jongin’s case, the girl wasn’t his girlfriend yet, but what she did is still considered cheating, for me! And Kyungsoo is short. Perfect for you, my man.”
Kyungsoo rolled his eyes at the statement. “Yeah, right.”
Jongin rubbed his chin as if he was thinking of something. “But I’m a very faithful guy.”
“Kyungsoo is a faithful guy.” Minseok said.
Jongin stared at Kyungsoo for a few seconds and smiled, “You’ll be my boyfriend in the future.”
Kyungsoo flashed him an awkward smile. “Okay?” What the hell just happened?
Baekhyun clasped his hands. “It’s settled then!” He said in a sing-song voice.
Kyungsoo groaned and rubbed his forehead with his index finger and thumb. “You guys are a pain in the ass.”
As if on cue, their professor arrived and told them to get in the lecture room. All of Kyungsoo’s friends and other classmates, except him, stood up and went inside the lecture room.
Kyungsoo was too lazy to stand up and go to class.
Kyungsoo was about to get up when Jongin suddenly went out of the lecture room and went in front of Kyungsoo. He stretched his arms down on Kyungsoo so he can hold onto his hands. Jongin pulled Kyungsoo up and wrapped his arm over Kyungsoo’s shoulders.
Kyungsoo tried his best to act unsurprised by the unusual act and to hide the blush on his cheeks.
After the class, Kyungsoo, Baekhyun, Luhan, Sehun, and Minseok went to the café across the university. Kyungsoo was still thinking about what happened earlier. He and Jongin are not close friends. He doesn’t even know if they are really friends or just acquaintances. He knows that Jongin was just kidding with what he said earlier and the act he did was just a friendly gesture, but why does he thinks that there’s a deeper meaning behind all of it?
“I think I have a crush on Jongin.” Kyungsoo told himself.
“It looks like you unintentionally said what’s on your mind,” Sehun said while smirking before he took a sip of coffee.
Kyungsoo groaned and knocked his head on the table. “You weren’t supposed to know.”
“Hey, it’s okay. I think Jongin will be a good boyfriend.” Minseok said as he patted Kyungsoo’s back.
“But I’m not looking for a boyfriend yet. I’m still enjoying my life as an uncommitted person.” Kyungsoo whined.
Baekhyun snorted. “Yeah, sure.” Baekhyun looked out on the window of the café and smirked. “Oh, dearest Kyungsoo. Your lover boy is here.” On cue, Jongin, Chanyeol, Yifan, and ZItao entered the café. “We just dropped by to say goodbye. We have to go somewhere and sorry if we can’t stay with you guys today.” Chanyeol apologetically smiled.
“Where’s Jongdae, Junmyeon, and Yixing?” Minseok asked. “They were gone right after our professor dismissed us.”
Chanyeol raised his hands in defeat. “Okay, we’re actually going to Yixing’s house. Sorry if we weren’t able to ask you to tag along with us.”
“Next time, we’ll bring you there.” Yifan promised.
“Guys…” Zitao motions to his phone screen. “Junmyeon’s calling. We really need to go.”
Before they leave the café, Kyungsoo asked. “Wait! What are you going to do there anyway?”
“Get wasted.” Chanyeol casually said.
“Oh.”
The four men waved them goodbye and before Jongin went in the car, he looked at Kyungsoo and smiled.
Shit.
-
Kyungsoo sighed for the nth time today. He doesn’t know why he bothers thinking about Jongin when he knows that Jongin probably thinks of other people. He might not even cross Jongin’s mind.
It’s not that he expects that something will bloom between them-well, okay. He does expect a little. The problem is that they really don’t talk like how Kyungsoo talks to Baekhyun and Minseok and how Jongin talks to Chanyeol and Sehun. They don’t have a lot in common.
Kyungsoo is secretly a fanboy. Jongin thinks fanboys and fangirls are gross.
Kyungsoo likes to sing. Jongin likes to dance.
Kyungsoo is contented to what he has in life. Jongin is not.
What they only have in common are their friends. Great.
Kyungsoo was so lost in thought that he didn’t notice his professor glaring at him. In the end, he got shouted at in front of his other classmates with his friends laughing at him.
Assholes.
