Has anybody seen the commercials for the Christian Children's Fund? I love these commercials.
It's one of those things where you spend pennies a day to sponsor a starving African child who needs your love and support... except instead of Sally Struthers making a heartfelt plea, they have a bearded gentleman attempting to passive-aggressively shame you into sending your money.
"We know you've thought about it. Put it on a nice to-do list, but somehow never got around to it." That's verbatim, including the condescending use of "nice". Instead of appealing to your compassion, they try to convince you that you are rich and lazy and have not been doing your part.
Google has revealed several blog entries similar to this one, assuring me that these commercials have been noticed-- but I want more. I so desperately want Beard-Guy to become the biggest spokesperson phenomenon since the Pets.com dog. I want him to make more appearances. I want him to be a presenter on televised award ceremonies. I want him to be common knowledge.
If you're reading this, Beard-Guy, I encourage you to exploit your burgeoning celebrity status. You can take the money you get for public appearances and funnel it right back into the CCF.
Somebody remind me in a few days to write an entry about my mixed feelings concerning the word "blog".
