My personal tally from the Lansing Lugnuts' opening day Eat-A-Palooza ($15 got you in the gate, plus unlimited food and soft drinks) at the newly rechristened Cooley Law School Stadium:
Friends at the park:
• Greg (came with me)
• Kurt (came with me)
• Retro Joe (making his debut as the Lugnuts' PA announcer)
Joe's "fielding percentage" in his debut ((total chances - errors)/total chances)
• .996 - Gold Glove territory for now, and he'll get better
Places we sat/stood without ever being asked to show a ticket:
• 7 rows behind the first base dugout (a dangerous place to be before sunset - very close to the batter and if a screaming foul was hit at you, you wouldn't see it)
• 20 rows directly behind home plate
• Along the fence on the left-field foul line
• Right next to the left-field foul pole
• In the grass behind the left-field fence
• Behind the fence in deepest center field
• In the concourse behind first base
Eat-A-Paloozing:
• 1 bratwurst
• 1 pulled pork BBQ sandwich
• 1 cup of Dippin' Dots ice cream
• 1 grilled chicken sandwich
• 1/4 serving of chili cheese fries
• 1 Italian sausage
• 1/2 lemon ice
• 2 Diet Pepsis (watching my weight, obvs!)
It's a great place to watch baseball. Too bad it's a bunch of Class-A guys I've never heard of, so I wasn't really that interested in the game itself.
