granny

i miss my grandma. she was sincere, clueless, and graceful. i remember her smell...a tingly tiger-balm-mothball rendevous. and i can almost hear her oversized fuzzy slippers drag across the hardwood floors, at very distinct intervals, spaced by random phlegm gargling. she used only hankerchiefs that she stowed away in patch-pockets sewn on by herself. i grew up thinking she was chubby. but one day witnessed her shed 8 layers of clothes on the top and about 3 on the bottom and saw that she was hardly there anymore. she was a tiny set of bones with skin soft as velour drapped over it. she'd unbury her tin can of saltine crackers and sneak me a handful cuz she like me. they're still good, i never touched them - she'd reassure me. i miss her.
