OKAY SO, I've been distracted by Air Gear babble because apparently Air Gear 210 came out recently. BUT I still need to talk about DMC4 because I just beat it and I won't be able to remember my train of thought later. Thus, Kilik's hot will have to wait until I'm finished ranting about Dante's hot and then we can all be relatively satisfied.
There is definitely a link between Vergil and Nero. I highly highly doubt that Nero is Vergil's son (for very obvious reasons), which is why I sort of lol the whole fandom. Honestly, I guess I can't say that I'm one-hundred percent sure, and it could be a possibility, but it would be a cheap cop-out. However, Capcom is not unknown for those. So, yes, there is that one-percent possibility that Vergil is the father. I think it'd be more likely that Nero is some sort of reincarnation or carrier or some sort.
That, however, is not what's interesting to me. What's so interesting is the correlation between Yamato and Vergil's "spirit" and/or Devil Trigger-whatever you'd like to call it. When Nero first gains the ability to Trigger, he says: "From that day forth, my arm changed... and a voice echoed. 'Power... Give me more power!'" So somehow, Yamato triggered that voice inside of him. He goes on to say, "And if I become a demon, so be it! I will endure the exile. Anything to protect her."
It reminds me so much of Vergil's struggle to protect Dante. Also, that may be obvious to only me; but I've gone over things so much that Vergil's determination to gain power can only be for that reason. While he couldn't protect Eva (just as Dante's guilt complex works in the same fashion), he sets his focus on protecting Dante. He has a very awful way of showing it, but he does it nonetheless. There's actually a few places that I got this from, two of which are from the manga, and the other two are from the game. Both are in the second Devil May Cry manga, the first is when Vergil's sucked into a demonic dream, and is calling Dante's name. The second is this:
The ones in the game are obviously (don't quote me on this, but I've played through the game a few dozen times so I think I remember it almost word for word), "Without power you cannot protect anything, let alone yourself." So he summons Dante to Temen-ni-gru not only to grab his amulet, but to keep an eye on him. While Nero doesn't retain the cold part of Vergil's ideals, he does seem to understand the former. He knows he needs to keep Yamato in order to protect Kyrie, and from their second battle, Dante seems to understand. I think he also has a pretty good idea of who/what Nero is. To make the Savior work, Nero had to be related to Sparda, though we're still left in the dark as to how. Either way, Sparda is still over two-thousand years old and could have sprayed his seed from the sky, idk. So when he leaves, Dante sees Nero as family, and understanding (esp. after DMC3) what his brother's intentions were, he leaves Yamato with Nero. It's still in the family, and yes! Dante gets family, so he's cool with it.
Also, that "Will I ever see you again?" was kind of gay, Nero.
edit. I thought I'd look this up too since I mentioned it in the paragraphs above. Vergil reaching for Yamato screaming Dante's name.
DISCUSS.
