It's one of those days that, no matter how much tea I drink, how far I walk in the morning, or how much I stare at my computer screen, I just can't seem to wake up.
Tomorrow we get another load of vegetables. Last week we got a baking pumpkin, and we figured that we'd puree it and make some fresh pumpkin pie. It's small and cute, and about the same size as the red winter squash we got the week before. The first step includes cutting it in half and baking it, draining it, and then pureeing it. It'll take about two days to make, given we don't get distracted with something else in the mean time. Because, of course, another load of vegetables means more searching for recipes. Since it's getting cooler, we should be getting more squash, so I've been looking up other recipes for the winter squashes that we might be getting. I found one where you stuff a red winter squash with a rice pilaf and bake it; which would be good with some salmon and a glass of white wine.
I also made a wheat-free chex mix with different wheat-free snacks I found at the health food store, including cashews, corn chex, rice chex, cheese puffs, and Japanese rice snacks. It's delicious and I only have one bag of it left.
Also!
Threadless has opened a
retail store in Chicago. This means that it's time for a road trip into the city. It's close to Clark and Belmont, so I might head there this weekend and stop at Mitsuwa for lunch. I've been looking for shirts that I can wear beneath the thin, long-sleeved shirts that I got from Steve & Barry's. They have low necks, so something with an image higher around the collar would be nice. Something like
this,
this or
this. Bright colors, especially, since the shirts that I have are dark violet, brown and gray. There was one that I wanted that showed the path of the arteries and veins around the heart, but of course is sold out.
This one also tickled my pickle, but I think I'm going to have to skip out on everything until their next ten dollar sale. Dan McCarthy is also selling a t-shirt that has the image of the skeletal Tyrannosaurus talking to the skeletal human, which would also be nice.
Later, I have pictures of the farm that we get our vegetables from. There was an open house and it was lovely. Images and thoughts later, when I have access to the camera. For now, on I go, to MAS90!
