Aori sat sidelong by Braver. He was so cold, so distant and far off and uncaring. He'd been the one who'd got her into this mess. If it weren't for him she'd have recovered at REmed and probably be well on her way in her muse career. Why did he have to kidnap her that day? Why was she pulled into this? It hurt to think about. She hugged her knees to her chest and rested her chin on them. Why Braver? That jerk. He didn't even care anyway. He was so cold and distant. She'd never confide in him, ever. And as that thought ran through her head she was so overwhelmed with despair and fear and frustration, that she forgot to stop the words from coming off her lips.
"I'm so weak and small... I swear this whole thing is going to crush me. Why me? Why did this all happen?" She turned to Braver, who looked back at her in surprise "Why Braver? Why!?" She screamed.
"Aori.."
"No! You don't know what it's like! You're the strong one, you've been there for all of us! Mentally and physically you outdo me anyday. All I'm good for is saving, and you know it. I hate it! I hate you!" And with those words sprang at Braver, fists flying, tears streaming, throwing all of her fragile form at the sinuey mass that stood before her. Hailing him with blows she felt as he swiftly got a hold of her hands, his strength clasping around her. Screaming she continued to try to assault him with whatever she had, writhing and kicking. Shaking her he spoke one word, with a firmness in his voice that bordered on something nearly violently powerful.
"Aori!"
With this she suddenly stopped and looked up. And as she did so, she met his deep, dark, clear eyes. She could feel her whole soul being enveloped by something that pierced right through those eyes into the very core of her being. Her body loosened, he let go, and she staggered back. Her eyes glossed over, she felt like she was going to be sick, and everything went numb. For a moment she just stared at him in disbelief, totally at a loss.
And then it all came rushing back to her. All the pain and sadness and fear and frustration of the past few months. Feeling her resistance failing, her lips pulling back and tightening, her world spinning out of control, and extremely nauseated, she collapsed into a weaping mass in his arms. And he held her, with that wrought iron body and rough exterior, wrapped around her. And in that moment he held all her sorrows and pain and frustration, he held her world together. As she shook and shivered, tears streaming down her face, nose running, hiccupping for breath, she finally let go of it all, for that one moment. And in that moment, she didn't mind being rescued. She embraced it. She embraced freedom from all that had tortured her until now. At this moment, all that she knew was her, this man, and an overwhelming sense of protection and peace.
She cried bitterly at first, and then sadly, and then she just let go. Exhaustion overtook her and she fell asleep surrounded by those strong sinuey arms and that strong chest, with a constant heart beat and in and out of his breathing. Braver sat there for a long while, watching the stars, with this strange girl sleeping softly next to him. Then he slowly picked her up and gently lifted her off the ground, carrying her back to camp.
