Summary: There’s always somebody there who cares for you, sometimes you just forget who those people are.

“Are you okay, hyung?” Sungmin asked as he sat down at the foot of the older’s bed, gently unfolding his arms. Heechul hasn’t gotten up or out of his bed in three days and the other members took turns trying to get him up to at least eat. They were going in chronological order and this time, it was the pink-loving, aegyo king’s turn.
Heechul didn’t hear Sungmin come in. He just curled up under his blanket and tried to drown out the rest of the world.

“Hyung… What’s wrong? You haven’t gotten up in days. We’re starting to get worried and I think Teukie-hyung is about to have a stroke…”

Sungmin’s minor attempt at comedy lifted off like a balloon filled with someone’s breath. Heechul just lied there, unmoved and remarkably still. He knew that even if he tried to get up, his body wouldn’t be able to move. He was, according to him through Yesung, missing a very large part of his body. He didn’t say anything other than that, but the members knew what he meant. Sungmin, being sensitive, also knew. He couldn’t imagine the kind of void that Heechul now had in his life. Sungmin knew how it felt to miss somebody when they went away, but the feeling and pain of knowing that that someone wouldn’t come back was beyond him.
This kind of pain: the pain of genuine love was beyond Sungmin.

“Heechul hyung,” Sungmin said hesitantly in the softest gentlest voice he could muster, “Do you miss Hangeng hyung?”

Heechul’s body stiffened from underneath the sheets and Sungmin took it as a yes. Well, he took it as an ‘of course I do, you idiot’ but he didn’t take offense. Sungmin moved closer and rested a hand on his hyung’s blanket-covered shoulder. He was the middle and he didn’t want his dongsaengs to see Heechul this way. He didn’t really know what to say. So many of his hyungs already went ahead of him without being very successful, he didn’t know what he could do to help even if he really wanted to.

Heechul tried to hide his tears from his dongsaeng. His body quivered slightly as he tried to take a breath. Sungmin felt really bad for his hyung, he has never seen nor can he recall Heechul ever being the weak one. Heechul was always the frank, eloquent and sometimes crazy hyung to Sungmin. When everyone else was down or not in a very good disposition, Heechul was the one who wasn’t afraid to tell them off; to say that being sad over this wasn’t worth it. Heechul was Sungmin’s hyung who was never afraid to kick someone in the ass to prove his point. This silent hyung under the blankets was very different from that one.

Sungmin took a deep breath. He knew that saying anything wouldn’t really work right now. All he wanted at that moment was to make Heechul feel better, even if it was just a little. He was a bit apprehensive at first because invading other people’s privacy (let alone Heechul’s) was not something Sungmin wanted to do. He slowly pulled up the older’s sheets and lied down next to Heechul. He gently wrapped his arms around Heechul in a warm hug from behind. He didn’t know whether this was going to work but it was the best option he had. Heechul was surprised to feel Sungmin hugging him because he knew that Sungmin was a bit scared of him. Nonetheless, he welcomed him either way.

“Hyung, I know you’re sad. Really sad. I don’t know what else to say, I think all the other hyungs said it all…” Sungmin whispered into Heechul’s back, “I don’t want to say that you should get over him leaving or say that hyung should be strong for the other members because the truth is that you’re hurting… I believe that if you’re hurt, you shouldn’t have to put up a shield pretending to be okay.”

There was a pause between the two. They were silently listening to the world outside Heechul’s blanket, outside his room. The two were listening to the sound of each other’s breathing. Heechul felt calmer than he had felt in days. The feeling of Sungmin’s arms, his warm and sincere embrace made him realize things that he thought he long forgot or destroyed.

Heechul felt love, not the kind he had for Hangeng (and vice-versa) but a different kind of love that Sungmin had for him. He felt that Sungmin, even if he didn’t say much, really did care for him. He felt that Sungmin, much like the other members were concerned for him not just as a co-member. He felt that they, Super Junior, were concerned for him as a real friend.

You could even say he felt that Super Junior was concerned for him like family.

Heechul slowly turned to face his dongsaeng and with all the power he could muster, he hugged Sungmin back. They didn’t need to say anything. They both knew that things will work out. They both knew that they will both be okay. Heechul was glad Sungmin (like the rest of Super Junior) was there for him. He was glad that there were people who cared for him even if sometimes he forgets.
