And it writhes in agony.
For the record, the Halo party was fun. My/AJ's/Zach's team dominated all night. And I gained a lot of respect for Zach tonight. He played very well...given not really liking the game or playing often, and he's actually a cool kid to talk to, even though he can be a douche at the SLB sometimes (flipping the board in that game of Risk...dude). James got in for one game, and was key in putting down some shit talkers something fiersome-nasty-retarded-fresh-superfly-dope. But this post really isn't about any of that.
Some of you may have read the latest Penny-Arcade comic, in which Tycho screams at Gabe for saying he never really played 10, but only X...saying that X was indeed the tenth entry into the series.
Now, for those of you who actually ARE gamers, you know that, as AJ put it, this is the equivalent of calling Link "Zelda," or calling Samus Aran "Metroid." Or even thinking that Uwe Boll is deserving of anything but a slow, agonizing death involving rather weird stuff. Butt stuff. There are just things respected gamers should just KNOW, and amongst them is that X is NOT 10...just a spinoff series.
What really hurt me about this isn't just the mistake. It was the fact that it was ARGUED that X was actually 10. In STUPID fucking ways. Mainly, that X is 10 because there ARE Megaman games 1-8, and if you THEN include Megaman and Bass, then you have 9. The mistake in this logic, which one could find in TWO seconds if you look, is that Megaman X came out in Ninety-fucking-three...for SNES. Around the same time as Megaman 6. Megaman 8 was on the NEXT GENERATION...Playstation and Saturn. And Megaman & Bass came out half a decade AFTER X.
None of this information is hard to find, so another thing that really irks me is that Tycho, who's usually the smart one, depends on user e-mails to argue his point...one of which in particular is just..retarded and a flat out lie. It says that Megaman & Bass was actually called Megaman 9 and not released in America...which was confirmed in Nintendo Power. First...no, it was NEVER meant to be called that. The title given to a game in production means NOTHING, it's a tentative project name that is ALWAYS changed before production is even finished. Second, it WAS released in America, for the GBA. And third...who in their RIGHT FUCKING MIND calls Nintendo Power a reliable source for confirming ANYTHING?! I wouldn't call that fucking propaganda rag worthy of confirming what I ate for dinner after I wiped my ass with it. The only thing worse than Nintendo Power is Official Playstation Magazine, And THAT'S only because Nintendo Power comes with better art and deals.
Maybe it seems like I'm making a bit much of a simple matter, but Penny Arcade is supposed to be the pinnacle of gamer humor, and that is a fucking mistake that no gamer should make, and especially not ARGUE.
