Ellie's POV
It’s been a year since we been in the executive’s office. I probably left you guys with questions. One may have been why did the executives kept Selena and Demi? They believed that they would’ve lost money and viewers if these two weren’t on it. The executives reluctantly supported their relationship along with mine with Dallas.
I stayed with Selena at her house because after what happened my mother never wanted to see me again. I never wanted to intrude but Selena and her mom insisted that I stay, so now I’m a permanent house guest.
Our relationships are going good. We always double-date and the paparazzi is always there. We were always the main topic of most magazines. So anyway, now that you are up to speed I’m going to continue the story.
Selena and I are at her house. She was sitting on the couch watching tv while I was getting ready to go out with Dallas. It was the first without Selena and Demi. But she’s been doing this a lot lately and I don’t know why. To think about it, I haven’t seen Demi around.
After getting ready I took a seat on the couch next to Selena. Her eyes never left the tv. She didn’t show any sign of emotion or shown that she acknowledge the fact that I sat down next to her. She kept perfectly still and it was kinda creepy enough to make me worry. The room was also dark and the only thing lighting it up was the tv.
“Sel?” I said as I nudged her in the arm and got nothing. So I tried again, “Selly?” Still nothing. “Selena!” I yelled, she didn’t flinch but she did turn her head towards me. She doesn’t even look like herself. “Is there something wrong?”
She turned her head back to the tv, “Nope, what makes you think that there’s something wrong?” Does she not see the way she acting?
“Because you’re acting like a mindless zombie watching tv.” She looks down because she now knows that I won’t stop bothering her about it. “Is there something wrong?” I asked again.
She turned her head towards me but she was still looking down. She whispered “Demi’s been distancing herself and I don’t know why. We usually don’t go a day without talking to each other and it’s been about a week and a half.” A tear slid down her right cheek and I wouldn’t have seen it if it wasn’t for the light coming from the tv.
I placed my hand on her cheek and wiped away the tear. “I’ll ask her when I go to their house and I’ll kick her ass. Do you want me too? ‘Cause I will.” She shook her head and a smile appeared on her face. I removed my hand and looked up at the clock that was above tv. It was time for me to go. “I gots to go.” Yeah, I added the ‘s’ to the word. It’s one of the few things that made Selena smile just a little bit when she’s down. I got up from the couch and gave her a quick hug. Then I made my way to the Lovato’s residence.
I went up to the door and rung the doorbell. The door was opened by Dallas. I leaned in to kiss her but she moved away, that was odd. “We need to talk.” Oh no, those are the four words you don’t want to hear on a date. The four words of death.
“That doesn’t sound good.” Dallas moved out of the way for me to come in the house. I went into the living room and sat on the couch. Dallas sat down but she kept her distance. I knew what was going to happen. “You’re breaking up with me.” It wasn’t a question because I knew she was.
“Ellie, you have been distancing yourself from me and I feel like there is something you’re not telling me. I thought we had better relationship than that. I thought we told each other everything.” She’s hurt because of me.
“Lemme explain.” That was my plan for tonight, to explain myself. But as soon as I opened my mouth she raised her hand. She didn’t want to hear what I had to say. I knew she would understand if I told her but I never would get the chance. “I guess I’ll go then.” I got up from the couch. I turned to her because I had a question to ask, it was for Selena. “How come Demi hasn’t talked to Selena in over a week?”
“She doesn’t know, I thought Demi told her.”
“Should’ve told her what?”
“I thought Demi broke up with her last week and that she was dating Joe.” I didn’t know how to react to that so I just left the house and went back to Selena’s house. I was mad at myself, this was my fault. I wanted to tell Dallas why I was being distant. It was something that happened about three months ago and today I found out what effect it had on me.
I walked in the house and the first thing I heard, “Why are you here so early?” It was Selena of course, her mom and her step-dad were out of town for something.
I took a seat next to seat Selena on the couch, ignoring the question. “Would you say I have been distant lately?” I wondered if I had only been to Dallas.
“Just a bit.” I nodded and got up from the couch. I started walking to the stairs.
Selena's POV
Why did she ask that question? When I looked back to see her walk up the stairs I saw tears. No. I thought. Dallas broke up with her. After I faintly hear the bedroom click I got up from the couch.
I went up the stairs and stood in front of her door. I heard her crying on the other side. I opened the slightly and peeked inside. She was curled in the fetal position on her bed. I opened the door more to let myself in. I went over to the bed, got on it, and laid on my side facing Ellie. “Why?”
Instead of answering my question she grabbed my hand. She put it under her shirt and made me touch her bare stomach. I don’t know what she was implying by this. I looked at her with confusion and she knew I needed more. She took in deep breath. “I-I’m pregnant.”
“What?” Did she cheat on Dallas? “How?”
She let go of my hand and I pulled it back. “Remember my birthday? About what happened?”
I don’t get it. “You mean when you had to go the police station because you witnessed a crime?” To come to think of it, that is when she became distant.
“All of it is true except for the fact that I wasn’t a witness, I was the victim.” She didn’t need to finish, I already had an idea what had happened to her. Now she’s a broken mess. Ellie is a very lively person and seeing her like this means she’s in a great deal of pain. I wonder for what ungodly reason why someone would hurt someone that’s so precious in the eyes of her friends.
We stayed like this for the rest of the night. I put my arm around her waist and pulled her into a hug and her head rested on my shoulder. For a few moments the silence was filled with her sobs and her breathing. Then she told me something, something that I should’ve expected. “Demi’s dating Joe.” She said in a whisper.
Like I said, I should’ve expected it, but for some odd reason I felt relieved than heartbroken. Is that normal?
