I forget if I've mentioned here before, how I managed to convince my mother not to constantly call me, and not to expect me to constantly call her.

I was an 18 yo freshman. I was dating a 27 yo who was the asst mgr at the on-campus pizza joint. One weekend, as a courtesy, I called my mother to tell her I'd be spending the weekend with him, so I wouldn't be at the dorms.

She lost her shit, threatening to come down to the university in the middle of the night, get someone to let her in, then find my room and pound on the door, and if I wasn't there, I'd be in so much trouble!

I laughed. I said "Let's think about that for a second. You hate driving at night (she has vision problems anyway, they're worse at night). You hate freeway driving. Yet, you're gonna set your alarm for the middle of the night, get up, get dressed, drive down to the university (a 45 min trip, almost all of it freeway), find someone to let you into the dorms at that time of night (good luck with that one), then you're gonna find your way to my room and pound on the door, possibly waking up my roommate, when you *already know I won't be there*?! Have fun with that..."

Then I hung up the phone, packed my bag, and spent the weekend with my boyfriend.

:-)
