Other Hootiebird quotes from today

On the way to the grocery store Hootiebird and I had the following conversation.

"Daddy, when we transp- trunpl-" He stumbled a moment over the word "transplant" before continuing. "The aloe plant later today, can I have an aloe for my very own?"

"Yes you can," I said.

"Oh good. We can buy a pot today to keep it in. I'll put it in my room so if Mommy burns her back again I can run upstairs, break off a piece and put on her back so she feels better. She's my very own Mommy and she's my friend!" When he said the last sentence he spread his arms wide and smiled about as wide as his mouth can manage.

"OK," I said, "but there might not be enough sun in your bedroom for the aloe. We can try it there and see how it do-"

"Oh! OK! Then I want to keep it downstairs then so it gets pleeeenty of sun!"

He ended up picking out a lovely blue pot with a flower motif and built in drip tray.

While actually shopping we passed some "Granny Smith Apple" flavored seltzer. We were using what he calls a "Car cart." This is a shopping cart that has a fake car on the front so two kids can sit inside, put on seat belts and pretend to drive a car. He hopped out of the cart without asking me to stop, as he is wont to do, grabbed a bottle and said, "Look Daddy! Apple bubbly water! We should get this for Mommy!" We ended up getting two bottles.

Somewhere along the line he not only snuck a box of pop tarts int the cart but managed to get them onto the conveyor belt without me noticing. I only noticed this when unpacking the groceries at home.
