The weekend consisted of chores, laundry, dishes and food prep. When I got back to the office and sat down at my desk my first thought was "Oh, this is much more relaxing."
Weekends, I'm going them wrong.
Last night I made soap from scratch. Well, almost scratch. I bought lye instead of extracting it from wood ashes.
The recipe consisted of 2.5 ounces each of lard and tallow, and an ounce of safflower oil to bring the needed lye quantity closer to half an ounce. I may have added too little lye, which would mean I'll have something rather nasty in the soap molds instead of soap a couple weeks from now. I erred on the side of caution when adding the lye as I decided losing a batch to bacteria was preferable to soap that would try to eat my skin if I used it.
Tonight I'll add the yeast to the half gallon batch of carrot / parsnip wine and the 1.5 gallon batch of watermelon wine. Both already have yeast nutrient, so my hope is to have a drinkable, even tasty wine within a few weeks.
