Ooh, over on sparkly_archive the discussion has turned to what kind of sexual content and kinks are common enough in stories to warrant their own search option. Have we missed any?

Goest thou forth and comment so eloquently there, then. Though, hey, we've got shapechangers under a category currently defined as Special Effects (things that couldn't happen in the real world). :)

I feel a bit iffy about expressing many opinions on it, because I never really use archives so I'm probably not going to be a frequent end user. It's a nice idea for the fandom in general, though.

Huh. Aren't all author sites technically mini-archives? This would be a really convenient way of finding everything by one author, and, theoretically, the most up to date URL for 'm too. I figure if you are a reader and/or author and you thought 'hey, where's...?' that's a valid enough reason to throw it up in the comments.

Mind you, I think someone already noticed that bestiality was listed under optionally viewable warnings, but not under kinks.

One person's warning is another person's kink :-) I saw rape under kinks, while I would've put it in warnings.

And I guess it'd be a really handy way to find stories by people who put them on LJ or in challenges, but who don't have their own site too. Hadn't thought of that.

I think that's the main driving force behind the oft heard lament 'I wish this fandom had a main archive' and PWD's kick-ass initiative to make it so. That and searchability. I say if you see something you think would be useful for some reason, throw it onto the table. Now's the time for brainstorming, later is the time for selecting the most workable things out of the suggestions.
