Bishop Sasarai, Lady Rydia, Lady Raine...I fear that an expedition to the ruins now would be rather unwise, and request we postpone the trip. My sincerest apologies for any inconvenience.

Sir Aziraphale, may I have a moment of your time? Goodness, I am so dependent on you.Additionally, if there is one in the village versed in the art of Filial ( Read more... )

You may have as many moments as you need, miss Svala. How can I help you?

Congratulations on the organization of the library, first and foremost. It is quite an impressive feat.

Oh, it was nothing. Simply an enjoyable, productive way to pass my time. One can't go wrong with that.

True enough.

Did you bychance come across any instructional novels regarding Filial magic, Sir Aziraphale?

As a matter of fact, I did. Though mostly addressing the nature of the elemental spirits, I'm sure it will be useful if you're trying to master this Filial, erm, magic, as it's referred to.

You are unfamiliar with the term?

aziraphail March 2 2009, 11:51:42 UTC
Well, I wouldn't say unfamiliar. It's just that magic usually involves pulling a rabbit out of a top hat, where I come from. I happen to be quite good at it, actually. Not that I mean to boast.

A...rabbit? Please pardon my confusion but...why? Is one expected to use the rabbit for food?

Dear me, no. The point of the rabbit, I suppose, is to amuse young children. It could just as easily be done with a rat, which I'm sure will have a terrifying effect. Similarly, I could try to procure a small shaggy owl from my handkerchief instead of a beautiful dove, though I doubt anyone would be in the mood for that. Things just wouldn't be as magical, you see.

Those are rather peculiar spells...your culture regards this "magic" as a source of entertainment rather than for practicality or battle?

Yes, that's correct. And they aren't spells so much as... tricks.

I see. That is very unlike the magic of my land.

It's unlike the magic of many different worlds, if I understand correctly. I have to say, it's absolutely fascinating how one word can have such a different meaning.

Indeed. That such differing definitions apply to the same word across worlds is enough to provoke thought. Or perhaps I am reading too deeply into a meaning that simply is not there.

One can never read too deeply into a meaning. It's "food for thought", so to speak. Perhaps even worth investigating.

Perhaps.

Thank you for your time and input, Sir Aziraphale. I greatly appreciate it.
