Of booze and food

Confession time!

It was our 4th wedding anniversary on Thursday.

We went out with a couple of our friends. We drank. A LOT. Hee hee! It is rather unusual that such a thing happens - nine times out of ten I volunteer to be the driver for whoever needs it when there is celebratory drinking to be had, as I tend to be a very moderate imbiber. But oh did it EVER happen on Thursday! Both of us kept track of how much we were drinking, and I am floored to announce that when I tabulated the amounts in my Daily Plate food diary, it worked out to just under 1100 calories in booze alone.

HOLY HANNAH!

Being aware of the caloric content of various serving sizes of alcohol does help me keep my intake low at celebratory events, but both of us decided to throw caution to the wind. And to the wine. And the shooters.... Glen had to go and empty the contents of his stomach at about 2:00 am, and was subsequently punished with a raging hangover that prevented him from leaving the house all day Friday. He didn't even make it to Karate. Oddly enough, I have an iron gut when it comes to handling the aftereffects of booze, and even though I had nearly the same amount as he (he beat me by about two drinks, which he had before we left the house), I was totally fine the next day.

On Friday, there was no desire for any fermented product whatsoever. Actually, I think my body was so overloaded with calories from the drinking and really, really rich supper we had that it decided it didn't want food at all. I had a half a protein shake for breakfast (helps after a night of excess), a PB&J sandwich for lunch with a couple of carrots, and some cereal for supper. I felt fine, too, not hungry at all. Karate went well, despite having eaten only very lightly, and I was pretty normally hungry by the time I got home from class.

Last night I hosted a rather successful dinner party, which resulted in MORE wine drinking, albeit a fraction of the amount we had on Thursday. So I entered the amounts into my food diary, and winced at the totals. Now I am very, very happy that there aren't any more celebratory events on the roster for quite some time. Today will be another period of light eating and a good bit of exercise; time to purge them toxins. Glen made french toast for breakfast, which can actually be a decently healthy option - protein from the eggs and 2% milk, very little butter used in the cooking, and a slice of bread. I put natural peanut butter on it rather than syrup to get in a little more protein. Ahh, the attempts to sop up a week of hedonistic overindulgence...
