[Well, that explains a LOT. Except for the whole burning moment he felt at the end of the dream. He still has a lot of questions, but he knows how to skate around issues, just like Jessamine does as well and so he chooses another way so perhaps they can talk about this later on.]

Is your birthday coming up soon?

[Because why else she would dream about it, right?]

[By the time she answers, Jessamine's hair is already carefully arranged and she's dressed. Her skin looks absolutely flawless - no light scars in sight. Her lips quirk up into something of a smile; she thought that she'd be more excited about turning eighteen but maybe that's because she's not home in London.]

Mmm...well I suppose if you mean by soon, then I suppose that would mean it's today.

[The change is noted and it doesn't really surprise Desmond. But his expression does change to shocked when Jessamine admits the date of her birthday]

Today!?!? [Shit, he's not prepared AT ALL. And with the ice outside, it'll have to wait.]

How old are you now? [You know, he never asked.]

[The reaction wasn't something she expected at all and it makes Jessamine laugh.] it isn't as if I expected anyone to remember. Only people from home would know.

Eighteen.

[Well...there is that. But still. Eighteen is an important age! She should be having a big party or something. Not that he had one on his eighteenth birthday. But that doesn't matter! If this stupid ice could just go away, he could at least take her out to a nice restaurant. As a birthday gift. Not as a date.

Wait. If she's eighteen now, that means when they kissed, she was still underaged. OH SHIT, he served alcohol at Magnus' party, didn't he? He never thought about asking her for her ID. Good going there Desmond, good going. He might as well look for a free 'Get out of Jail' card. And now he feels like he's an old man at twenty-five.]

Still, I hope they planned something for you? Eighteen is somewhat of a milestone, no? At least, it is in my world.

[Yeah that whole age thing doesn't really apply to Jessamine - people had short life expectancies in the Victorian era. She hadn't really even considered the fact that all that modern day stuff came along with social rules as well.] As it is in my world. This would have been the year I could leave the Institute...and if my parents were alive, the last year that we would have had the Clave knocking at our door.

[She gives him a small smile.] I doubt very much that anyone has anything planned. I think I'll be spending this birthday in peace.

[Desmond has no idea what she means by all that, but with the past few interactions they've had together, he's starting to want to get to the bottom of her mysteries.]

Hey, that's not right. How about you spend it with me? I mean, if you're not afraid to get out in this black ice. Or we could just wait for it to melt. If ends up doing so. We could go have dinner and a movie or something. If you're up to it. That would still be a peaceful night, no?

[Oh God, he's rambling. Can you tell he's kinda nervous?]

[Jessamine raises an eyebrow but mostly in an attempt to draw attention away from the slight blush rising to her cheeks at the suggestion. Previous birthdays usually only included herself and the other members of the Institute. And those always ended in some sort of spat between her and Will anyway.

And then after a moment of contemplation she asks a question that she knows she'll probably regret later. Partially because it sounds so unlike her and os modern and partially because she doesn't want to get her hopes up.]

Are you asking me on a date, Desmond?

[Unfortunately for Desmond, he is taking a sip from his morning coffee when Jessamine asks him about it. He chokes on it and coughs a few times before he is able to breath again. He sincerely hasn't thought of it like that but it does sound like him asking her on a date. He can't remember the last time he asked someone out. There was no time for that ever since he had been kidnapped by Abstergo. And he could never find the courage to ask Lucy either. As he tries to catch his breath, Desmond has to admit that he wouldn't mind a date with the young woman. He offers her a small smile]

Yeah, I guess I am asking you on a date, Jessamine.

[She saw that. Her cheeks colour, slightly embarrased at her own daring to ask that question when it was clear that he hadn't been quite intending that when he offered. Still, when he answers, a slight laugh bubbles from her mouth. Jessamine isn't sure how she feels about that to be honest.]

You guess? You don't sound very sure.

[failssassin]

No! Yes! I mean...urgh. [He runs a hand over his face. God, Desmond, you suck at this. Why couldn't he inherited Ezio's charm instead of his stubbornness?]

No, I'm sure. I mean. If you're interested, that is.

I suppose we could but only if you really do want to. I'm more than content having a quiet birthday by myself.

[failssassin]

[There's an hint of a smile on his lips]

I wouldn't have asked you if I didn't want to, trust me.

And you insisted that I shouldn't spend Christmas on my own, so you shouldn't be alone for your eighteenth birthday. [He pauses, realizing how this might sound] But that's not why I asked you out.

[Luckily for Desmond, Jessamine doesn't quite catch onto how that quite sounded.]

That's just you being kind, isn't it? [A small sigh escapes her lipa but a hint of a smile is curling onto her lips.] Very well. I suppose I can take time out of my terribly busy schedule to go and do something tonight.

No! Not just because of that. So we can...I don't know, get to know each other better?

[....That doesn't sound better either....

Still, when she acquiesces, he smiles back at her.]

I'll pick you up at seven?

[Jessamine merely smiles at the last comment. She's not sure she wants people getting to know that side of her - never mind that she keeps seeming to slip up here in Somarium.]
