Cheated (In My Time of Dying)
It’s not chance-Dean’s absolutely sure.

One minute his father was walking on his own, and the next he was on the hospital floor. His life fled his body with no reason, no witness.

This is not how John Winchester dies. This can’t be the end Fate had in store for him-so quick, so quiet, so… muted.

John should have gone out in a blaze of glory, sword buried in the enemy that finally beat him.

Dean feels angry and cheated, and he’s damn sure something else is going on.

This invisible death can’t be John’s. It’s a lie.

Summoned (Sam, Scarecrow)
Not their first or last argument, but it wasn’t ever like this when they were young.

It was “Gimme” and “I’m telling Dad,” and little spats that are over and soon forgotten.

It wasn’t these lines drawn in the sand, of “You’re just like him” and “All you care about is yourself.”

Sam left again, despite the pain underneath Dean’s bluster.

But he heard it on the phone, and it forced him back and straight to Dean’s unknowable predicament.

Death would have found Dean within the hour in that god-forsaken orchard.

Sam was almost too late. Thank god he listened.

Presence (In My Time Of Dying)
It’s not just denial, this feeling that Dean’s in the room with him now.

Not the Dean in the bed-the one who’s wandering the invisible ether.

The feeling comes and goes- even passes right through him -and Sam has to grab it with all he’s got before it escapes and Dean goes with it.

The Ouija board is desperation. Sam knows Dean would mock him for it endlessly at any other time.

The planchet moves under a pressure that isn’t his own.

And Dean is there, just as Sam inexplicably knew. This silent game keeps alive that almost-broken thread.
