Here's hoping 2016 is a better year than the last, at least for our family. We lost my Dad last year, and HalfshellHusband broke his wrist and also badly sprained his hip (which has made the last few months fairly unhappy for all).
No resolutions to post, though it looks like I need to relose the 10 pounds I gained since about September (when our daughter went off to school, and then the other stress started).
There are questions, though, namely: why are there no fewer than five Secret Spider Surprise showers every year? First one of 2016 today-way to start the year!
Last night, I had one of my recurring violin-based dreams. These usually have one of several aspects, though last night's dream ran them all together:
Almost no hair on the bow, or hair so worn it doesn't make a sound Bow so short it barely covers long notes Playing illustrations instead of sheet music (i.e., interpreting the contours of pictures AS music)
and a new one, which evolved into that last one: being semi-incompetent at reading actual sheet music or keeping rhythm, especially for sight-reading. Although admittedly, there is no way to interpret 8/3 as a time signature. 3/8, yes, but not the reverse!
It seems like an anxiety dream, though less unhappy than the recurring dreams of Going off to school or a new town and not having any friends there or Coming to the end of a college year or job and not having packed anything for the next-day move (plus, having brought too much stuff!) or Working in radio again and being outside or across town when the record ends that I'm supposed to back-announce. The violin ones are more on the order of the dreams where I'm bicycling for days (DAYS) and can barely move, or am picking lousy routes like around swimming pools and through rec centers and up/down stairs.
Erm. Yes, I have all of those dreams over and over again. Bring on the flying dreams, instead!
Our daughter goes back to college tomorrow (*cries*), but meanwhile we're watching something we fortunately still have and which is right up her alley: the Daily Show coverage of the 2004 election. Still funny, and she's such a politics nut. She's changed her major to Poly Sci with an emphasis in International Relations, and so we were only about two minutes into the first episode when she said that she wanted to own that DVD set (as in, probably take it back to school with her). Also? Stephen Colbert, so young, so cute. Still cute, in my book, but hubba-hubba.
All right-it's dinner time, which apparently is the only thing that was going to stop HSH from torturing me with Bob Dylan music from the kitchen. Geez.
Happy New Year to you and yours, beloved f-list! \o/
