Almost Friday. So close!

HalfshellHusband and I are going off to a bed and breakfast this weekend, for a belated 25th anniversary celebration. We're really looking forward to it. Let's hope our trust in the kids is not misplaced. I'm not thinking wild parties so much as our son playing endless video games and both kids eating wall-to-wall junk food for three days. Which will not kill them, and they'll probably feel all sneaky or something. ;)

I posted a picture yesterday of the Futurama cake I made for my son's birthday. There is something vaguely whalelike about that ship, at least in my rendering of it. Maybe I'm just channeling something subliminal instead of falling prey to my limited artistry. \o?

I might be on the verge of giving up on The Princess And The Goblin. I know I read it as a child (because who could forget a character named "Curdie"?), but back then, the story probably carried me past the overly precious style. It really shows its era.

I've started in on The Belam Detective, which is a novel/mystery/other (?) set in 1912 England. It's very readable, and one of the most interesting aspects thus far is that the detective's son has a condition unknown in that time but which modern readers will recognize as Asperger's syndrome. I'm almost done with the David Baldacci thriller I've been working through at the gym, and nearing the end of The Pushkin Hills as well. I have a stack of "Read and Return" books to dig into after that!

So, weekend plans? For my American F-listies, are you going anywhere over Labor Day?
