Last day for voting in the LJ Idol polls. This thing is making me so nervous-- we're losing the bottom two, and the pack is neck and neck. The poll is
here, and your support is always appreciated!
I'll be cycling soon, and I just don't know what to do about the unusable gears. Post-tune-up, they reverted right back to the two most-used ones slipping out, and it's because they're just worn out. But the next threat-level is replacing the gear wheels AND the handlebar shifters (grrr-SO much less stable than the spectrum levers they used to put on frames), and possibly the rear wheel altogether. I.e., a rework involving big expense AND probably having the bike hijacked for awhile. If only my denial would just make this go away... :(
I stumbled upon a funny BBC Sherlock John/Sherlock will-they-or-won't-they fanfic last week, called
Re: Inter-Office Gossip. It features a wager between Lestrade and Donovan that soon has half of Scotland Yard in on the action. Great minor characters, and a few surprises, PG-rated and well worth reading. :)
Speaking of which, I finished The Fellowship For Alien Detection last week and started Imaginary Enemy (both YA, both fun). I may be about to bail on Vampires In The Lemon Grove-this third story will decide it. The first did not "end," the second was unsettling but did. So many novelists really struggle with short stories, in getting the pacing correct and having the conclusion feel solid and organic (Ursula K. LeGuin, for instance, is really 'iffy' in this format). Plus, I have more grown-up books in the reading pile AND I keep acquiring new things from whatever I bring home from the library for my son. I used to never 'quit' books, but I've relaxed into doing it once in awhile.
So, it's Monday and I am of course already thinking about Labor Day Weekend! What are your plans for it?
