Sam only sleeps in the car, if he can help it. By nighttime he's worn down and ready, but that's when the worst of the dreams always come.
Sometimes it's Jess, dying on the ceiling or standing by the roadside while he passes her like he's already forgotten. Other times, it's nightmares or visions (he can't tell them apart, which is torture of its own).
In the dead-black night, he reads by flashlight in a chair, or runs cold water on his face to stay awake.
Tomorrow, they'll drive. He'll doze while Dean and daylight help keep the darkness away.
