I woke up with a headache today, which is never good. Kind of sleepless from about 5am onward, with too much running through my head:
1) Composing one of my flood-relief fics (with actors doing the parts)
2) Boys' boarding school? Something? There was mischief, and I briefly rode a horse (thanks, White Collar)3) Worrying about what our older cat's ( Read more... )

I accidentally typoed a 10 in my secret. I'm really glad I caught my mistake. :P

I have loads of food texture issues. It doesn't bother me so much when things taste bad but they better not feel funny in my mouth.

For example, I only eat fresh chicken. Chicken that has been frozen has funny texture. (Probably because most frozen chicken contain a lot of water)

I only eat certain kinds of apples. Nothing too farinaceous*, but on the other hand I only eat farinaceous potatoes.

If it makes you feel better I'm nowhere near as picky about food and texture as I was when I was younger. Now I can eat things with funny texture, even if I'd still rather not.

*I have no idea if I used this word right. I had to look it up

Hahaha! That would have made your secret creepy, instead of "W00t!" :D ( ... )

Yeah, stews and stir fries are better. The yucky texture is much less noticable, especially if it's simmered for a while.

Mealy... Now that was much easier word. LOL

I used to be like that about butter. I wouldn't eat a sandwich if butter had touched it. In recent years I've come to realize that I have no problems with 'real' butter, but I still don't eat anything that has been touched by a light/low-fat version. (I don't eat light or low-fat products at all. It's both a texture and taste thing.)

I also didn't eat cheese, or ham, or jam, or paté. I eat all of those things today.

Hrm... Lauren likes butter and margarine, but mayonnaise is a show-stopper.

In fact, she loves hamburgers but I don't see how when all she'll put on them is ketchup. No mustard, no lettuce, no pickles-- zippo!

I eat a lot of low-fat things (I prefer them), but apart from butter... I will tend to shun things that are fatty/greasy. Gravy, for instance, is an abomination to me!

I also didn't eat cheese, or ham, or jam, or paté.
With those first two, I'm surprised they didn't throw you out of Sweden. Practically sacrilege!

Thank goodness you can tolerate them now. So, I see that Lauren's weirdness with jam is not all that strange among people with texture issues. I can see jelly being disliked, but not so much jam (unless you hate seeds).

Cottage Cheese
Mushrooms
Jell-O
Mayonnaise
Hot Cereal of any kind

You definitely have some texture issues, then!

I love cottage cheese, and now mushrooms (hated them as a kid, because they tasted like dirt). Jello & mayo are okay.

I'm trying to think whether there's a hot cereal other than oatmeal that I will eat (though I prefer the oatmeal undercooked and to in no way resemble slime or cement). Malt-o-meal, grits, Cream-of-wheat... bleah. They're all gritty, and they taste bad.

I might have a few texture issues, but I can't think of anything where I don't also hate the taste. :0

I don't like food with 'bits' in.

For example, freshly squeezed orange juice or fruit in yogurt. Freshly squeezed orange juice TASTES BETTER, I know. I know.

Hahahaha! When Lauren was a baby, she used to pick the fruit bits out of her yogurt and give them back to us. Yuck!

Little did I know where all of THAT was goingt o lead. :0

She doesn't like orange juice with pulp in it, still doesn't like fruit in yogurt, and jelly/jam are completely inedible to her.

When I was little, I preferred orange juice without pulp, but I got over that. Especially since it sometimes taste weird and weak with that much modification. :0

I hate coconut. Can't stand it. Not because of the taste - because it is rather tasty. But the texture is disgusting. It's like this gross, horrible mixture between finding a hair in my food and chewing on Styrofoam. Eating it makes my skin crawl.

I usually refer to it as Satan's Pubic Hairs, because it is THAT disgusting to me.

Hahahahaha!

I like your description of it.

I can see why you don't like it-- I'll admit, I'm not fond of the texture myself. I like chunks of it (as in, pried out of a coconut shell), and I like it in Almond Joy (where it's really moist and cohesive).

But its flaky form... yeah. Not so much.

Worse yet, my mother loves it and has a tendency to randomly throw it on cake to make the cake more special.

That's about on par with adding mint or walnut food flavoring to a chocolate-chocolate cake with the idea that it "needs something." Not, it doesn't! It was already perfect before you tainted it! Gah. :0

i have a texture issue with flan - it's not solid, but not pudding. it's like jello but... not. i like jello, but i want it to be nice and firm in its wiggle, and flan is just a hair too custardy. and cream of wheat kind of grosses me out because it's grainy. i like oatmeal, so i think it's the texture of the wheat grains vs the texture of oatmeal. (bigger bits are totally fine. :D but hot cereal in itself doesn't bother me, just the particular kind.)

There are a lot of things I hate that are on most people's texture lists:

flan/custard: too "eggy" tasting
cooked pudding: the "skim" layer does not taste good. Like cooked milk or something.
cream of wheat/malt-o-meal: icky taste. Is it the wheat? Ick.
polenta: yuck. Tastes like cornmeal (corn chips & cornbread, yay! cornmeal... no)
risotto: yuck. Tastes like rice.
rice pudding: see above.
tapioca: looks disgusting, taste is not worth the calories.
cheesecake: tastes like cheese, which is not good in a dessert.
avocados: hate the taste, except in guacamole (lemons & garlic FTW!) The basic fruit is kind of... bland.

I do have a hatred of fatty/greasy things. So, I like fried chicken and fried shrimp (but I don't eat them), but I don't want any other kind of meat fried/battered/gravied. German food is like a personal nightmare to me ( ... )
