This weekend really zipped by, thanks to various activities. I got almost nothing "real" done, and all those chores are still waiting... Nuts.
We went to Discovery Kingdom on Saturday. We rarely get there in the summer because the heat is unbearable, so the 68o temperature was a nice opportunity. At the entrance, Christopher asked again what lorakeets are, so we went off later to track them down and discovered parts of the park we haven't seen in ages, if ever. There's a new tiger area, habitats for a fennec fox (think "bat ears"), cheetahs, lions, camels, and a coati. There were also some kiddie rides I wish they'd had when Christopher was still short enough for them-a hopping frog ride, a Dumbo-like elephant ride, a Zoo Train (complete with tortoises in the middle), and a few others. The lorakeet cage featured an all-red lorakeet, which I've never seen before.
Sunday, we had blueberry pancakes (which HSH said was totally unnecessary, blah-blah, and then he ate an enormous stack of them and wished for more. He'd forgotten how much he loved them!) We went to see Toy Story 3, which was fantastic and made pretty much everyone cry. After we got back, Christopher went to visit the friend who had the brain tumor removed (non-malignant, thank goodness). His friend is doing well-he's gained back most of his lost weight-and there were surprise baby bunnies that Christopher got to hold (*is jealous*). HSH left Christopher there, thinking it would be a brief visit. We got an update that the boys were going to the park (the one with crawdads), and then HSH couldn't get ahold of the mother to pick Christopher up. She called around 6:30 to see if Christopher could stay for dinner, because after moving and all the other hecticness she hadn't realized that it was Father's Day. :0
Then we had family movie night featuring more episodes of Shaun The Sheep, with a big intermission to talk to my own Dad. A good day all around!
The exercise part of things was at "low ebb," shall we say. That blockage pain really hung in there (even with major OTC treatments), and I added laxatives into the mix on Saturday. My Sunday run did not materialize (too risky), and I opted to bike in the garage instead of going out (twofold-just "in case," and also because the parkway on summer weekends is loaded with dangerously clueless people, and BBQ events like Father's Day just ups their numbers). Monday I went out biking for real, and I'm thinking I might risk a run tomorrow morning. The pain is much less, and given that I run only once a week... I've got to maintain the calluses. Yes, I know that sounds weird.
During Friday's outdoor bike ride, I got zoinked in the chest by a bee, which stung me and then promptly fell down my cleavage. I gritted my teeth and kept riding, thinking I'd gotten it out, and then decided I'd better pull over and check (in case it stung me again!) It was in there all right, clinging to my jersey, so I ejected it. Of course, it had to sting me in an spot that I can't see without a mirror, so the best I could do was paw at myself (!) and hope the stinger was out. On the plus side (*knocks wood*), I haven't gotten stung in the upper face area since I switched to the light-blue helmet with a visor about a year ago.
Still working on my
schmoop_bingo and other fic efforts. I got a flood of ideas on Friday, and only started one of them before the sleepiness set in. Finished and posted the Glee birthday fic, still have two Iron Man stories to tie up plus an SPN. And that's without beginning any new stuff. :0
