Sam rejected this life once already. He was not doing it again-this was temporary, no matter what Dean hoped or how their father schemed. The roaming made him restless, and the darkness drained his soul. It was why he left before.
Driving out of Chicago, streetlights showed the hints of blood and tears across Dean's face.
Dean made himself leave Dad after waiting months to find him, and he'd urged Sam toward freedom back in Indiana with the same choked-off voice that never hid how much those words hurt.
Sam's thoughts of leaving faded.
Maybe someday.
Maybe.
Not today.
