Bobby first met Rufus at a farmhouse, hunting the same ghost as him. They stomped around each other, acting tough, but wound up burning the bones together and sharing a bottle of whiskey on the back of Rufus' truck.

"Not bad," Rufus grunted. "Seen worse."

"Not bad?" Bobby snorted. "I've forgotten more Sumerian than you'll ever know, ya idjit."

"Cracker."

"Moron."

Rufus' eyes lit up. "Damn, that talk just gets me going."

"Yeah?"

Rufus pushed Bobby down into the truck bed, teeth dancing along his neck. "Redneck soldier."

Bobby growled. "While we're young, jackass. Stop tip-toeing around."

So they did.
