Oh, I'm so sorry. It's hard enough to go camping/vacationing with kids without your partner with you in the best of times, let alone when he's going through such physical distress. I hope you're still able to hike.
My daughter keeps trying to coerce me to bring along one of her friends, and I keep telling her that this is enough work already without the dynamic of her younger brother feeling left out (which transforms him into a complete pest).
What I need is another grownup, not another kid. ;)
I just wanted to let you know I'm about to leave for one of these trips with three teenage boys tomorrow morning(of course comparing this to what you've got on your plate borders on ridiculous)and I'm not too happy about it. I've gained some weight since I did the very same thing last year,so hiking will not be as much fun.My husband somehow managed to end up pulling weekend shifts, stepping in for a friend. Moreover,I hate packing(and forgetting the most needed items at home, then having to go without the basics all weekend and bringing everybody's wrath down on me) and the boys will surely be at each other's throat.I was adamant about them not bringing along any digital gadgets, either, which on hindsight may have been a bit hasty. I wouldn't have dared to comment here, because obviously you've been through such a lot ,but then I thought maybe you'd like to know that at least for the kids-cum-camping-bit you are definitely not alone out there.
Did you have to "fly solo" last year too? That's the part I'm really dreading. Not the logistics, exactly-- I'm better with the organizing, putting up the tent, than my husband
( ... )
I'm so sorry your reply somehow managed to end up in an account I've been told not to access anymore. That's why I'm only getting back to you now.I would really appreciate your list, because my list actually consists of 6 smudged bits of scribbling
( ... )
I'll send you the list-- and I'm sorry you went the same weekend I did, because I was hoping to get it to you beforehand!
We got the tent up fine- other than the people across the way with their popup trailer watching us like a zoo exhibit. It's getting it packed up again that's always awful, and this was the worst time yet- the rainfly was soaked (that was new), and the ground under the tent got a little muddy. So the packing/sweeping off took a really long time, and since my daughter proved an incompetent sweeper... it was a one-woman operation and not rolled tightly enough to go back into its stupid container. This is a big tent that no-one will EVER pack into the woods, so why must the container be 1 cm larger around than the tent
( ... )
So sorry to hear that HSH is so unwell. I haven't commented for a while, but I have been reading all you have to say. Can you go camping another time perhaps? Take the kids on a day trip instead? It sounds like a lot of work to take them camping/hiking alone, you brave woman!
I hope it works out.
And for goodness sake, what's a family wedding when you can go to a con, lol?!
He was hoping to go as of about 9am this morning, and by 10am was solid-certain he couldn't. He's just feeling awful, and I kind of hate for him to be alone all weekend in that state!
This is our favorite camping site, and we have the reservations, and the weather is good. Day trips are no good for my wimpy daughter, since hiking is the part of camping she enjoys least. So I'm going to suck it up and just go. It's probably more me worrying than any actual 'horror story' that'll happen.
And for goodness sake, what's a family wedding when you can go to a con, lol?! Especially not even a wedding, but a "wedding re-enactment," since the two of them chose a quicky Justice-of-the-Peace marriage in May, not even dressed up, and my niece is 18 and has just thrown away her future on being a military wife to her on-and-off high school boyfriend. Gah!
I knew it was a possibility when we got my husband's cancer diagnosis, but you always hope it won't quite come to that.
He stayed home, and fortunately stopped throwing up on Saturday. First day in over a week that he hadn't thrown up. He's feeling a little better today.
