you're going to bike 18-20 miles one way to get to work? are you crazy? (signs point to yes.)

*ahem*

maybe i should be wishing you good luck instead.... bike to work month is actually a pretty cool idea, altho i imagine it's impractical for a lot of people.

>>and is in preparation for a new approach to a stock ratings ploy. (!) <<

so instead of having two girls kiss, they're going to have two guys? :D

As it's been for me since I moved to Sacramento. For the longest time, my office was on the other side of a major freeway, with the only access being along the busy road with no shoulder and a deep ditch OR via gangland. Since we've moved, the damn freeway is STILL in the way. But there's the possibility of getting there now that I've located the pedestrian bridge crossing the freeway. Funny thing is, technology is what made that possible-- the "Aerial view" on MapQuest instead of the "Street view" is what helped me locate the thing. For years, it's been invisible because cars cannot drive on it, so it doesn't show up on maps. :0

There's a guy at the office who has biked 18 miles one way for years. I finally realized that if I can bike 30 miles in one stretch, and often bike 24-26, then 18-19 one direction is not impossible. Though the commute home will be a struggle, I imagine. ;)

Hello, young woman; it's been a while and I hope everything is well with you and yours.

Thanks for the link to the article. I read it with interest and found myself agreeing with much of it in theory. The main thing I love about it are the words in the title 'And That's Okay' - because really? It *is* tv and our perceptions are our own, so we all watch it for the most enjoyable aspect, it's hoped.

We may disagree about it - 'and that's okay' - but one of the most important things is probably to watch for entertainment. If that's not happening, then it's something we can switch off...unlike parts of our real life.

I laughed at this Karen: because I cannot stand the Sally Fields and Calista Flockhart characters on this show. They're so neurotic, they give me stress.

I don't watch the show because of the white light CF makes me see, but the fact their characters 'give you stress?' LOL. Like kids!

Take care,

Rosie

Exactly-- whichever reason it is that we ARE watching.

Since I don't share many fandoms with that author, some of the article was a little confusing except for the "Bela and Ruby Show" (which I fear Supernatural might turn into!), and then the "Chloe Sullivan is Awesomesauce Show" (which, though that's not the flavor of 'Smallville' I used to watch, it's a flavor that has lots of appeal!).

The rage kind or the insane kind? Or something else entirely? :0

Like kids!
Actually worse-- at least kids have an excuse for being so immature! But it's true-- major neurotics give me stress, and rageaholics give me stress. Even stupidity is easier to take. ;)

;) Trying to avoid competing with me, eh? :D

Calista makes me a little of both! Generally, I like Sally, but I hear she is quite annoying in B&S.

The article was quite topical for fandom at the moment, and it was written humourously which is wonderful. It managed to be inoffensive in its use of humour, so this is an added bonus : D

LOL. Lucky you are buffered from all this at LiveJournal ; )

You never write disturbing metaphors, dearest, you are the Creator of the Correct.

Thanks for the chat! Keep well.

It's like fingernails on a chalkboard. The only thing worse is when she and the Calista character are going at it, because it's The Evil Times Two then. Unbearable.

I love good humor, especially when you can use it to make your point even better. Even though I wasn't familiar with most of the shows she was talking about, it was very clear what she meant.

I'm fairly certain there are fans of "The Theodore Bagwell Show", for instance, who do in fact wonder why the lead doesn't have more screentime. ;)

Wasn't that funny? I mean, it's obvious that many of us are getting different things out of the same shows, but no-one's ever painted the extremes quite so well:

Some are watching the "Rose Tyler Show," and are vexed at the continued absence of the lead.
Hahaha! I don't even know the show, but I know exactly what she means by that.

Then of course there are the "Your Grasp of Basic Science Makes the Baby Newton Cry Show"
Argh-- I've personally witnessed many installments of that one. "Oh my god, the airlock is opening!" "That's okay, just grab onto something. It'll keep the vacuum of space from sucking you out of the ship." As opposed to sucking the lungs out of the inside of your body? "Oh no-- the planet's gravitational pull is too strong!" "That's okay, just turn the wheel really, really hard!" ;)

I also know what she means about "The Explosions" show being a favorite of her husband's, no matter what channel it's on. Even MY husband loves that show, when he hasn't rat-holed into some random PBS documentary. ;)

More often I tune into the 'Plot and Characterization' show.
Me too-- drama (as opposed to MELOdrama) is so hard for me to resist. Or snark/bizarre comedy.

Although I have severe problems with "The Maggots and Burned-And-Rotting-Flesh Show," so all of the CSIs are off-limits and 'Bones' is pushing it for me a lot of the time. :0

And also why the "boy!Clark Kent" show faded off when it became the "Clark and Lana" show and then the "Lois Lane" show and now the "Supergirl" show. Oy.
I left in the middle of the "Clark and Lana" show. Couldn't take it anymore. I might've hurt someone had a stuck around for the "Lois Lane" show. I couldn't stand her.

She was a pushy, unmitigated beeyotch who was mean to Clark (while taking over his bedroom for no good reason, because it was convenient for her to move in on his family). But mainly, having the show become about her rather than Clark was the final blow. I started to have issues with "The Clark And Lana Show" in S3, though the early part of S4 let up a little and then abruptly became "The Lana Show," wherein I watched while doing other things. Caught sporadic parts of "The Lois Lane" show in S5 (because sometimes it was "The Magnificent Bastard Show"!!), but that was really the end for me. I've only heard rumor of "The Supergirl" show, but I haven't watched it.

What's sad is that when "Smallville" started, I tuned in thinking that the idea couldn't possibly fly and immediately got sucked into it. Angsty!Teen!Clark, and the audacity of having him start out being friends with Lex Luthor really hooked me, because you knew where that was headed ( ... )

Exactly! Every time she came on screen, I groaned.

I got into the show around the end of S2 into S3. I watched S1 in reruns, borrowed a friends S1 DVD set only to give the show up a season later because I was getting sick of it. And I liked Clark and Lana in the beginning.

I meant to watch the show from the beginning because I was intrigued by the premise. If the show had kept on track, I'd kept watching.

Oh, me too. The cast was good, and I'd still be there if the show were more about Clark (and he were less of a dingbat) instead of about romance/some-random-character instead. :(
