My original Arizona friend was here this past week. It was great seeing him, and just spending time with him. An aspect I appreciated a lot was having here in my areas. I am a Chicago suburbanite by far, but I still love the city. I loved showing him Chicago, and even his disgust to certain things, such as, traffic, size, and aggressive beggars, were my intense enjoyment.
Much like Nelson Algren, Chicago is a city that I just can't leave.
I was reminded of Candyman, and how it effected me. It wasn't about the urban legend (which is still really well done), but the real moments of it. It was actually filmed at Cabrini Green, the most infamous project in Chicago. The film crew had to bargain with the gangs to be able to shoot there. Some of the pan shots though, of the city... to the music are just so haunting.
