My 3rd pair of Shure E2c's are still kinda working... this means:
- the cable has gone rigid again (which caused all the things mentioned below:)
- the parts of the cable that go over the ears are so much cracked that the bare wiring is exposed. I have wound yarn over that to cover the wire.
- left ear doesn't do anything at all
- right ear has low volume, but I can still listen to my audiobooks with it
It's *not* a temperature issue that causes the cable to go rigid and crack, people all over the internet experience the same problems. Its the bad material choice for the cable.
Okay, they lasted me more than 3 months this time, but most people have stopped calling the sound I get from them even remotely acceptable some 4 months ago.
I could try and get a 4th pair, its still within the warranty time, but its cable will start getting rigid within 2 months again, causing it to slowly fall apart. 100 euro for earphones that last a maximum of 3 months is NOT acceptable. (I still prefer my crappy shures over the standard ipod buds because of their noise-cancelling ability though..)
So, if anyone knows a nice brand of sound isolating in-ear phones that do *not* suffer from a poor choice of material for the cable, please poke me!
