Secret Elephant?
My paid account is expiring in 12 days ><; And I was just about to make new batch of icons, too D:
Yesterday, we did a quick polling to see who would be interested in a Secret Santa at work. Today? Someone says they'd rather do a White Elephant.
(Quick explanation:
Secret Santa: You draw a name out of a hat, buy a gift for that person, keep it a seeeeecret - then surprise them!
White Elephant: Everyone brings in a gift, places it in a pile, and draws a random number. That determines what order you pick your presents in - but OH THERE'S A TWIST. People can steal your gift! Say, if A opens a gift and B likes it, B can "steal" it on their turn. A has to pick another gift. We usually limit it to 2 steals, so that C can take from B if they like, but after that, it's stuck and can't be stolen anymore.)
I liked Secret Santa better because it's more personal. And judging from past experiences, gag gifts or re-gifted items ruin the fun of White Elephant >( (poor rabbitattack!) We did an informal vote and the majority said White Elephant.
Sob.
But my coworker decided to send out an actual poll via Outlook - pick either Secret Santa or White Elephant. SURPRISE: a tie! It was 6 to 6, with about half of the office left to vote. And that's when insanity started.
My other coworker started calling people's cubicles, leaving messages like Hello! I'm the leader of the Secret Santa Campaign. We will really appreciate your vote this year! XDDD We also found out that a lot of people didn't know the difference, and were swayed once they learned.
We were thisclose to creating badges and fliers >>; VOTE SECRET SANTA!
Waiting patiently until the voting polls closed and counted... The results? Secret Santa won 13 to 8 :Dv
But we felt bad are very democratic and decided to do both XD Tentatively it's going to be a $15 Secret Santa gift, plus a $5 White Elephant. Someone said it's Secret Elephant. I like to call it White Santa :3
