This has been a really fantastic week in tennis. Watching a major is always exciting but I really think that this year the Australian Open has been such a treat and it's only the first week! There has been some really exciting matches and the usual disappointments but it wouldn't be a major without them I guess.
Like always I'm intensely rooting for the Americans and am hugely upset that Andy Roddick lost a great match against Kohlschreiber (he had that third set dammit!) and that Lindsay was unable to put up a good fight against Sharapova. I am extremely happy that the Williams sisters are going strong and that James Blake, who had an incredible comeback against Grosjean and almost gave me a heart attack doing so, is still in the men's draw. How surreal was it , though, to see Federer go five sets against Tipsarevic and have his skills which are never in question be tested that way? It was a fantastic match and having to watch Tipsarevic for an extended period of time is never a hardship; I love him and his cool ass glasses!
I had to work yesterday morning and wasn't able to watch all of the Hewitt/Baghdatis match, but I'm happy that Hewitt won even though I love Marcos. I'm hoping Lleyton will be able to move on and have chance at the finals, but he's playing Djokovic so I'm not exactly betting on it. It would be nice, though, even if I am in love with Djokovic. Damn those Serbians! Why does tennis have so much pretty people?
Well, I think it's a given that the second week of the Aussie Open will be just as exciting as this first week.
