I'm not sure that I've told everyone yet-- I've officially been accepted to be a volunteer with Voluntarios de la Esperanza for six months, beginning September 4th. I'm really excited. I need to brush up on my Spanish (and by "brush up" I mean practice and study for hours on end) this summer before I leave for Chile.
What a huge change this will be! Not only are the language and culture completely different from here, but also I'll be living in Santiago, a city with 6 million people! Holy crap. I'm curious to get a taste of big-city life.
I'll work at The New School until the end of July, and Sage and I are planning to go on a motorcycle trip for the first week or so of August. Then The New School is closed for a couple weeks, so I'll babysit a child in my class for the second week of August. Then I'll have a couple more weeks to prepare for my trip, chill with my family, etc. What a whirlwind of plans! I'm really happy to have an idea of what the next few months hold, though. It was driving me crazy not knowing if I would be accepted.
My stuff is finally (mostly) integrated with Sage's-- moving in and redecorating a bit has proved to be quite a task. I've got more plans for the place, but we can only spend so much money at a time.
This weekend, we bought fancy 450 thread count Egyptian cotton sheets, along with a Memory Foam mattress topper. Our bed feels like sleeping on a cloud. So nice.
Laura-- Thanks for the card and yummy cupcakes! They made me smile, and I didn't even have to share! :)
