do I have time for this before work? y

GOOD NEWS EVERYONE!

According to 2ch, the next chaper of DGM will be out in the next issue of Akamaru Jump, which will be released in August. It will have a cover page, a color page, and 50 pages of content [ . . . ] The Noahs, lead by the Earl, is gathering.

DO YOU REALIZE. THAT THIS MEANS THAT FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE I APPED, I MAY VERY WELL GET NEW CANON FOR DEVIT. The anime doesn't count and even if it did those eps came out literally the week after I got him in, so it's been over a year since even THAT.

Anyway I like to celebrate things with essays lol. This isn't really an essay, and if it WERE it's not an essay about Devit per se. It's more of a meta essay with me speculating on future canon! A lot of this I said in my post over on enough_space and in the comments of a srs poll once, but I want to organize it more and put it here and expand a little so fuck you here we go. I HAVE HALF AN HOUR TO KILL BEFORE I HAVE TO DRAG MY SORRY ASS TO WORK.

So here's where we left off in the Story of Jasdevi in canon: Jasdevi fights Krory! They essentially kill his body! His blood drains out of his body and takes a humanoid form to fight Jasdevi! Jasdevi gets Innocence in his eye and his arm begins to dissolve! They fight to a standstill, Jasdevi passes out and splits into Devit and Jasdero and falls through a door in the Ark, Krory's blood drains back into his body, and Krory dies, only to be revived later by Allen lol. Jasdevi haven't been seen since.

HOWEVER, I am operating on the assumption that they're alive, which I believe 100% with absolutely no doubt and here is why: in the official fanbook that was released long after that canon incident, Skinn is listed as dead and Jasdevi is not. Also there is no reason for Hoshino to have NOT SHOWN THEIR DEATH if they are in fact dead--the whole staging of those last panels was designed specifically to allow them to live, because they fell into another part of the Ark where they could be collected and rescued. Even if she wanted to avoid showing them dying, they could have passed out on the floor in that room and been presumed dead. ALSO THE NOAHS DIDN'T CRY. So. imo there is absolutely no way they died.

So anyway! The question is, what happened to them and what will they be doing when we see them next! This stuff is up to the mangaka and the plot, not the characters; it's hard to examine what Devit is like and come up with answers to questions like "SO DID HE LOSE AN EYE?" But I still have Thoughts. As y'all may have seen in my personal LJ.

The thing about what happened on the Ark is that it showed us everything we need to know about Jasdevi in battle. The fight lasted more than an entire volume, and in it they used all of their power and showed the full range of their abilities, and they fought to a standstill with an Exorcist who is one of the less powerful in the series. What I'm saying is that there is no reason to bring them back without something having changed. If they show up again and they're exactly the same and they're in the same situation in life, then . . . there's nothing left to do with them. You can't throw Jasdevi up against Allen after the Krory fight, because it's a given that Allen will win. And it's a shounen manga so that's a given ANYWAY, but in manga you can still make the enemy look like a threat. But it's not possible to make the Jasdevi we saw in volume 12 threatening anymore, especially not against someone like Allen or even Krory. Even though they didn't precisely lose that fight, they didn't precisely win it either even though they did in fact succeed in killing an Exorcist, WHICH FANDOM LIKES TO FORGET.

So what I'm saying is that when they show up again, they will need to have changed somehow, either physically or mentally. MY BETS ARE ON MENTALLY and here is why.

One possibility would be that Jasdevi's brush with Innocence awakened new powers in him/them, which happened with Tyki! Tyki got Innocenced by Allen and kind of went berserk and all this weird shit happened to him and then he was subdued again. And that is a possibility for Jasdevi too, and I won't discount it. But I'm not really placing my bets on it. First of all, when it happens to Tyki, the Earl insinuates that it's specifically a Pleasure memory thing and that it's happened before. And second . . . there are 14 Noahs. So far we've gotten information on Tyki, Road, Skinn, Jasdevi (they count as one), Sherril, Lulubell, and the 14th. So there are seven Noahs we know NOTHING about, and one Noah whose powers and memory we've never seen (Sherril). That's eight Noahs that Hoshino needs to come up with powers for and have the Exorcists eventually do battle with. And I have my doubts that she would retool Jasdevi and give them new powers and put them up against Allen and co. AGAIN when she has eight other Noahs to do the same thing with. It's completely pointless to rob Krory of a victory and "save" Jasdevi and then reuse them; she didn't do that with Skinn. She did do it with Tyki, but Tyki is a special Noah with a double life and empathy and so on and he's a major recurring character in the manga and Jasdevi are not.

So IT COULD HAPPEN but honestly I don't think it will. I don't think Jasdevi will ever be shown to fight Exorcists again, unless it's very brief, as some sort of gauntlet scenario or mass war scenario where they die quickly (Hakuren once mentioned the trope where Our Heroes, in the end, end up having to fight a gauntlet of weakened versions of past enemies, and that is a possibility, although it depresses me). And if that's the case then I don't see what the point was of not killing them on the Ark, although I guess time will tell.

BUT in recent manga chapters, we've seen that Something Is Wrong With Tyki. Tyki was also infected by Innocence during a fight with Allen, and since then he has scars and has been having pains, and something appears to be wrong with his Noah MAYBE, depending on what you read into the scene where he's sitting surrounded by broken mirrors/windows and asking what the strange feelings he'd been having were. I think it's a lot more likely that when we see Jasdevi next, something will be wrong with them too, and they'll be in a weakened/unstable state as opposed to a stronger one. We don't know yet what's going on with Tyki's Noah, but I wouldn't be surprised if something similar is happening to Devit and Jasdero.

And then what? I don't know. One thing I do know is that Allen is a Noah, and his Noah is awakening, and Cross warned him that he would kill someone he loved under its influence. SO--the Noah has to be curable, or at least treatable. In the beginning of the manga, I didn't think this was the case! I thought the Noahs were irredeemable. But if Allen is one, there's no way that he's going to become evil enough to kill someone he loves, which Cross insinuated was a necessary side effect. And there's Tyki, who has been set up in the manga to be redeemable/an eventual good guy, and he can't do that as the Noah of Pleasure. So I think the manga has taken a turn towards the Noah being something that can be gotten rid of, or at least repressed and lived with.

I don't know if this is going to happen to Jasdevi! A part of me says no, it's not. MY GUT INSTINCT tells me that Jasdevi is going to die. Tyki is not going to die, at least not until near the end of the manga. He's too important and too morally ambiguous. I think that by having the same thing happen to Jasdevi and to Tyki--Innocence infection and problems with the Noah and possible acting out or bad reactions or whatever--that gives Hoshino an out to show the possible deadly effects of that without killing Tyki. In other words, say the Innocence degrades the Noah and Tyki rebels against the Earl or something--he could get killed for that, and it would show the Earl as a ruthless threat, but it would also kill Tyki! Which isn't going to happen. But if JASDEVI do it and get killed for it, and the same thing is also happening to Tyki, it shows the reader what the possible consequences are of this and builds suspense, and possibly also gives Tyki a motive to hate the Earl more and turn on him. Likewise, if the Innocence itself kills them outright, it opens up the possibility of a "race against time! How can Tyki cure his Innocence infection!" scenario. AND OTHER SUCH THINGS. Basically I think there's a really good chance that the twins are going to be used as fodder to further Tyki's storyline.

There's also the possibility that the twins themselves will defect and end up on the SIDE OF GOOD and survive it, which I think is also possible, but less likely, unless this ends up being a mass Noah conversion thing where ALL of the Noah (or most) get their Noahs "broken" and rebel. I really don't see them joining the Exorcists, even if their Noahs were killed, and if they don't join someone for protection the Earl will kill them. In the end, I think that's what's most likely--the Earl killing them, for one reason or another. Either they stay loyal but their infection weakens them and he kills them for being useless, or he kills them out of mercy (I doubt this), or they try to strike out on their own and he kills them for being traitors. I think any of those things would serve to make the Noah more sympathetic as a group and possibly create a rift between them and the Earl, which would allow for things like Tyki switching sides or all of the Noahs being "cured" or whatever.

OF COURSE I WOULD LOVE IT IF THEIR NOAH BROKE AND THEY STRUCK OUT ALONE AND LIVED AND BECAME REBELS ON NOBODY'S SIDE BUT THEIR OWN BUT MAYBE OCCASIONALLY GIVING GRUDGING ASSISTANCE TO ALLEN AND CO. IN RETURN FOR PROTECTION FROM THE EARL, BUT THAT IS JUST MY DREAM. And now it's time for work and I was gonna say more but it's time for work ;o;

THOUGHTS ON YAOI I will add more in comments or something later
