The owl arrives carrying two boxes, one is a
cake that has 'Happy Birthday, Dad' written on it, and the other contains his gift, a portrait of Carina and Harry together, professionally painted. There is a letter enclosed with it.
Dad,
Happy Birthday! I do hope you're enjoying your day. By the time you read this I might already be there. The best part of being a sixth year is not having NEWTs or OWLs to keep me tied to school during Spring break. I can not wait to help you celebrate your birthday. The painting is a gift from Harry and myself. Do you have any bloody idea how hard it was for us to remain still for the painter to get it done? Lions are not meant to pose, that is for sure, but we agreed you were worth the effort.
I've never been that great at expressing myself with words. I believe actions speak so much louder and clearer than words ever could. These past few months of discovering who you are, and what you mean to me have been priceless. You are everything that I could have dreamed of or wanted in a father. I am so blessed to be your daughter, and I am looking forward to the years we have ahead of us. I'm certain we will continue to discover who the other is, and how much alike we are as well as how our differences compliment and balance each other out.
Today is about celebrating your life. I am so proud to be your child. Do not forget to make a wish today, yes?
Love always,
Carina Guerin-Black
