hating the wheel/house rambling

The rats hate the wheel. It's like a hating the Drake kind of thing, but with the wheel instead. The wheel will have to go unless they develop an odd affinity for it in the next day or so, I think. They're still sticking to more familiar scents in the house and furniture that they knew from the apartment, but things are slowly getting better. I think we need to move them to a room with more traffic as soon as we get things cleared up enough to do it, cause that upstairs library/room just isn't cutting it.

The cupboards are coming along slowly. I really have to reduce my expectations as both Adrian and my mom keep reminding me. But I'm convinced they should be done by now :P No prime yet, but soon, my pretties, soon... The general consensus seems to be a colour called "fairy tale blue". This amuses me. Every time I see the name of the colour I think of the Tori Amos song A Sorta Fairytale.

I just unpacked the front closet after giving the shelf a dusting, and the movies & games in the TV room. I feel like I did something small, at least. Tomorrow my goal is to unpack my clothes, do some laundry at my parents so I have clothes for work, and to buy the paint for the cupboards plus some smaller foam paint rollers for inside the cupboards. I like them so much more than brushes because they're not so drip-drip-drippy.

I like living here... but at the same time I really do miss living downtown. I miss the convenience of the bus and I miss the lack of bugs. I especially miss being closer to more things for easy access. I mean, not that things are terrible now, but for some reason, it seemed easier before. Of course, before we didn't need to borrow a vehicle every couple of days to pick up more things for home improvement type projects.

I also miss having blinds. But there is no point buying anything until the windows are done. I keep telling myself this, but it just makes things all the more painful that we're waiting for estimates.

And this whole home improvement thing? I'm not really a fan of the whole process. I like planning it, and I like the results, and to an extent I even like the work (depending on the work and general proximity of nasty things to my eyes and nostrils). But I don't like the waiting and the mess and the fact that I still don't have a kitchen. I didn't realise how much I am actually in the kitchen, but it's a lot. And I like being in the kitchen, especially when it's an orderly kitchen beneath everything else. Kitchens to me are probably more important than bedrooms. Isn't that silly? But I need food, and I really miss baking, and I like having things at my fingertips when I need them.

SO I WANT MY MOSTLY-PERFECT CERTAINLY-FUNCTIONING KITCHEN NOW.

*sheepish look*

My mom pointed out to me when we were talking that nurses are used to working on tight schedules and having to prioritise details. We're also very used to having a controlled environment where our actions and meeting certain deadlines are both stressed and stressful. I think to an extent my work habits are bleeding into the house and it's not necessarily a good thing, or an easy thing on Adrian. And Adrian, while he does a lot of work, has very different work habits than I do.

Maybe if I go visit the ratties and sleep, things will iron themselves out a little? I hope so.
