room 418: thursday evening

With his classes done for the week, Nathan was trying to figure out what he could do with his free time. Typically, he just spent it in the preserve, relaxing and trying his damnedest to learn how to read. He'd made some progress but he wouldn't be reading any novels anytime soon.

He hadn't made it out to the preserve just yet. In fact, he thought he might spend the night in the dorms for no other reason than he hadn't been there a lot lately. He'd opened the window in his room, letting the cool breeze in and was spending his time putting the clothes he'd washed away. Most of his shirts were clean so he was going without one for the moment so he wouldn't get them dirty too quick. Plus he liked how the breeze felt on his skin.

During the whole process of putting things away, he found a pack of cigarettes that he must have stolen awhile ago. He didn't really have any urge to smoke them, though. Maybe that whole thing had passed. Still, he went to lean against the window sill, letting the breeze hit the huge scar on his back while he turned the cigarette pack over in his hands.

It brought back some memories for him, of hanging out with Liam and Joe during his time with community service. They hadn't been bad guys and he finds himself wondering what happened to them. They were probably dead somewhere, he surmised, or still stuck in community service.

Nathan sighed and settled the cigarettes on the window sill. He crossed his arms and closed his eyes. If he let his mind go blank, he could imagine himself back home with Arran and Annalise. Or he could remember sitting in Gabriel's kitchen and feeling comfortable. He just had to concentrate.
