vanity is for the ugly
so here is a little recap of my weekend of sound:
thursday was the deftones show: danali opened and they sounded like a heavier sonic youth...the girl lead singer should drop the band and just do vocal samples for dance music.
poison the well was next and was pretty lame...they played one track from opposite of december and then the new cd...then the reason for going came on...all i have to say is that chino still has it...his vocals were amazing hitting roughly every note he sang in the hour and fourtyfive min. set...his scream is insanely high now...plus they spanned all of their albums...it was a great night and i ended up getting a numbered and signed tour poster of theirs by derek hess...nothing better than a poster of your favorite band done by your favorite artist.
friday was Between the buried and me and a life once lost...definetly a night for outstanding drummers including this young kid in the opening band who should quit and just play jazz for a living. a life once lost was pretty good...the drummer was amazing and the lead singer was all over the place...then BTBAM came on...one word : TIGHT...that band knows there shit...there lead guitarist was amazing as chuck would say "hes one of those guys that never did anything in his life but play guitar, and when you hear him you just want to quit playing cause he is too good. fuck that guy!"....tommy was great, he definetly has a span of vocals and his singing was on point. i havent heard a band that could go from grindcore/blastbeats to jazz since dilinger.
Saturday was the thursday,thrice,coheed show...coheed doesnt really impress me live...claudio needs to learn how to breathe correctly because half way through all the shows ive seen them play he cant hit notes and his vocals are breathless.however the new cd is very good. thrice are just a good live band...the lead singer has a powerful voice and was intune allnight...and well teppich is just a bad ass...one thing that was annoying was that they played their whole new cd (and yeah i know they are trying to promote it and island is probably making them play it all too, but mix it up a bit) however they did play "avenge the dead" for their last song and that is definetly my favorite...the last part of the song reminds me of eighties metal with a hardcore chant...then it was on to thursday...what can i say, they always put on a good show...although the confetti during "jetblack new year" was a bit corny, geoff always is a sincere front man and brings energy to everything he does. higlight of the night was the encore (yeah they are cheasy) but they played my two favorite tracks for it: war all the time and autobiography of a nation. as my buddy johnathan would say "that made my night".
then it was off to dudek, clapsaddle, sabrina, and heather's bday party...consisted of:
lines to the keg (just filled up two cups so i wouldnt have to deal with stupid shit)
some good words with KACI and NICKI and MELLISSA.
hoping dan wouldnt kick over my beer, but instead having him tackle me backwards into my beer.
jody hitting on my buddy heather...hehe...
and a bunch of scenesters trying to dance.
