I love music. It's that simple. Anything and everything, I'll pretty much give it a shot at least once.
I can happily scour the internet for new music - hot new bands, classic bands, influences on favourite bands, stone cold hit singles, solid album tracks, hidden gems and obscure b-sides - for days and days. Years ago this was how I used to relax. The only way I knew how.
Last year I found a band called
Casiotone for the Painfully Alone. I know, I know - it's such a painfully silly name, but truth be told CftPA make some fantastic music. It's a little depressing mind, but it just seems so accurate and honest. CftPA is basically a guy - Owen Ashworth - in his room using cheap materials to make besit poetry into lo-fi music. It's a cute concept, and it's, for the most part, well executed.
Why am I writing all of this? Well one of my favourite songs of his, one of my favourite songs in general, is a song called New Year's Kiss. I thought given the time of year I'd see if I could add a link to it, because (I figured) it must be on MySpaz or something like that, and let's face it, I'm a giving, nice person. :-P
Alas, no, I couldn't find the official version, but I did find a demo version that carries most of the emotional weight of the album verion.
So without further thought, give
New Year's Kiss a listen. And if you're wondering whether you might like it, just give the
lyrics a quick gander. Hope you like it.
Oh, and my absolute favourite of his is called
Young Shields. Combined with reading 'Rules Of Attraction', rightly or wrongly, the
lyrics basically sum up the way I imagine uni life is in the States.
Anyways, I hope you enjoyed a detour into my morbid sense of what accounts for good music.
Have a great New Year's, and all the best for 2008.
