Recs, The Devil Wears Prada (Miranda, Andy, and Miranda/Andy)

Five Assistants That Miranda Priestly Never Sleeps With (And One That She Does), 2 by Limelight (Andy/Miranda): Anna Wintour was made editor of Vogue at a ridiculously young age, and of course so was Miranda, so she's had a lot of assistants to deal with. Also, a lot of lint (when you get to that line, you'll know why I love it so much). I love the idea of the 5-minute Starbucks run, and the assistant who was slightly taller than Miranda, and the one who blamed Miranda's essential Mirandaness on hormones, of all things. Five things stories are a brilliant fannish invention.

Practice Makes Perfect by Clare (Miranda, Andy): Miranda has many skills (including the ability to impersonate Xena. No, wait, that's another story). Andy still has a lot to learn. This stems from a conversation about Miranda's hidden talents, and of course this little hint adds so much to Miranda's personality. (I love the phrase, "an unprecedented display of co-ordination"; the gag reel, with Anne Hathaway falling down every other scene, is hilarious.)

1 + 1 = Window, 2, 3 by Limelight (Andy/Miranda): this story is actually about Caroline and Cassidy; it turns out that I really like Caroline and Cassidy (possibly because they are blank slates onto which we as writers can project any manner of characterization and plot). This particular version of Caroline and Cassidy is wonderful; they have fully developed lives and Our Heroes are seen through their eyes, as they impact on the real story of Caroline and Cassidy. And I love the games they play with Andy, when she comes to deliver the Book.

Still Life with Lipstick by Victoria P. (Andy/Miranda): car sex? Car sex! (Well, no, not actually car sex. But car foreplay, which is just as good.) The missing scarf ploy is one of the best in the book.

Untitled by Afro Dyte (Andy/Miranda): Miranda has a tattoo. Just think about that one a while. (If any particular images come to mind, please share them.)

The Lily and the Crown, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 by Telanu (Andy/Miranda): this is an AU. Actually, it's a pirate AU. Well, it's really a space pirate AU. That is, a space pirate queen AU. Are you excited yet? Let me reiterate: space pirate queen. Any more than that would be giving everything away, but the important part: there are also slaves. And sex, lots of sex. And guns. Did I mention the spaceships? This is a action-packed thriller of a story, where a great deal happens and there is much action and thrill, and also some fantastically melodramatic emotional manipulation of the reader by the author (but it's really well done! Plus sex. I find enough really good sex makes everything okay in the end).

She Likes it Ruff by In My Nature (Andy/Miranda): Miranda realizes, at the worst possible moment, that Andy is a cat person. I have to say that the idea of Miranda Priestly as a St. Bernard owner is one of those things that, most of the time, does not compute. At all.

Better Homes and Gardens by Telanu (Andy/Miranda): the differences between Miranda and Andy are, quite possibly, insurmountable. But probably not. At least, one hopes not. This is the first story in this fandom that states explicitly that, once together, Miranda and Andy are together for the rest of their lives. Other stories have strongly implied happy-and-forever endings, but this one says, oh, by the way, for the rest of their lives they try to get it right and never, ever give up. Because a relationship between these two could never be easy, could it? No, I didn't think so.

More Things in Heaven and Earth, 2 by Hayseed (Andy/Miranda): this is an amazing and excellent story. Really amazing. Excellent. And the ending, oh the ending is perfect and wonderful and desperate and perfect. Something is happening to Miranda and Andy is the only one who notices, the only one who cares. This is horror, in the real way: I was horrified both by what is stated and by what is implied, and the sense of dread just kept growing as the story continues. It's great that way. And the ending: I love the ending.

The Life You Save May Be Your Own by Telanu (Miranda): so the ending to More Things in Heaven and Earth was everything that it could have been, everything that it should have been, but it did leave many questions unanswered. So Telanu answered them, wonderfully. I like Gareth. He needs a bigger fandom. (Actually, this universe that Hayseed invented is marvelous, and I'd love to read more in it. It's got such potential and malice and dangerous beauty.)
