I keep meaning to rec this out, and forgetting. If you're a fan of police procedurals with complicated women, Scott & Bailey might be for you.
- This is Janet Scott. She is unflappable, methodical, and amazing.
- This is Rachel Bailey. She is frequently going off on weird hunches, following her instincts, and drinking heavily.
Together, they fight crime.
- This is their boss, Gill Murray. She's a hardass with a great line in sarcasm.
These three women have a beautifully simple, yet complicated relationship. Anyone who's watched the last episode of series one who doesn't appreciate this relationship is just daft, to be honest. Because, MY GOD. They will make you cry and laugh and cheer, and throw things.
Not that the show is really about their relationships. At its heart, it's just another procedural cop show.
The show is the brainchild of Sally Lindsay and Suranne Jones, who apparently were drunk together one night, lamenting the lack of decent roles for women (roles that weren't The Girlfriend, The Love Interest, The Mother, The Daughter). They took the idea to Nicola Shindler, who directed them to Sally Wainright. She, in turn, paired up with Diane Taylor a former Detective Inspector from Greater Manchester Police. (all of this is according to Wiki)
And the show was born.
It's a bit soapy, a bit ridiculous, but mostly amazing in that it's about these two (three) women, their lives and relationships, and fighting crime. Significant conversations happen in stairwells and hallways, and yes, in the bathroom.
A third series has apparently been filming, but the first two are... out there. I believe they were put out on dvd in the UK, but only as region two. Which is sad, as I'd snap them up in a heartbeat if they were region one.
I made icons over here There's a comm, though it's not been updated in ages.
scottandbailey AO3 has only six stories, some are femslash. Some aren't. One has psychic wolves in it. (idek)
